The Sweet Story Behind Dior's New Bobby Bag

The Dior Bobby bag has a special link to the late Christian Dior himself.

The late Christian Dior was known for his superstitions. He had many Dior-isms – such as tucking fronds of his favourite flower, the lily of the valley, into models’ hems before a show for good luck. And he was also a dog man – he had a beloved pooch called Bobby – for which he named many things within the Dior universe after. For example, he named a suit in every one of his collections that was expected to be a success after Bobby.

The maison’s latest bag, the Dior Bobby, likewise takes after this sweet tradition. Designed by current Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri for the Pre-Fall 2020 collection, the Dior Bobby is a youthful messenger-style number that’s crafted in Italy from box calfskin and the clasp comes accented with the house’s signature CD emblem that’s an obvious reference to Monsieur Dior himself.

It’s available in three sizes – small (18cm x 14cm x 5cm), medium (22cm x 17cm x 6cm), large (27cm x 19.5cm x 8cm) and comes in four colours – black, cream, camel and blue Dior Oblique canvas. We imagine that there will be more variations in time to come for this handsome and functional number. And by the looks of it, this Bobby’s going to have a good run too.
