It is no secret that Maria Grazia Chiuri is flying her native Italian flag high with her Cruise 2021 showcase for Dior. The event which will be presented at 8.45pm Italian time or (2.45am Singapore time) on July 22 will be staged in the southern Italian city of Lecce (above) in the region of Puglia.

In an act of solidarity with the artisans and creatives from Italy during these unprecedented times, Dior has revealed a roster of artists and institutions who will be involved in the Cruise 2021 show in one way or another. And judging from the list of names, the show is set to be a visual and sonic experience.

The show space in Lecce’s Piazza del Duomo will feature the works of multi-disciplinary artist Marinella Senatore who is known for her enigmatic oeuvre which often contains a strong participatory dimension and a blend of dance and music. The Sinfonia Roma orchestra will be providing the live music while the dancers and singers from the La Note della Taranta foundation will be performing live. Meanwhile, the contemporary artist Pietro Ruffo, who most recently collaborated with Chiuri on the prints of the Around The World collection will return for Cruise 2021 with three unique prints.

Originally scheduled for May 27, the Cruise 2021 show wil reflect the new normal that now guides how the industry navigates its way around the fashion show circuit: Dior will make do with the audience, the FROW contingent and the street style circus. Instead, it hopes to put the focus back on the clothes, the craftsmanship, the community that helped build the collection, and the emotional appeal of a fashion show.
