exhibit yoyo cao

Streetstyle star Yoyo Cao founded her label Exhibit three years ago and debuted at Singapore Fashion Week last year. Ahead of her Fall/Winter 2016 showcase, we highlight five reasons why we’re raring to go for it:

#1: She’s one of Singapore’s top tastemakers

With 190,000 followers on Instagram, Cao is a streetstyle star who’s frequently lensed at fashion week. Her status as a social media star – it even landed her a Vogue feature recently – has undoubtedly given her label a lot more prominence.

#2: The brand is an extension of Cao’s androgynous, minimalist style

She’s a Phoebe Philo fan, and it shows in the streamlined separates Cao has come up with for the brand. The It girl herself is a fan of exaggerated silhouettes and layering, and her pieces – mostly in monochrome and neutrals – are also great for mixing and matching.

#3: Her designs are inspired by our hodge-podge culture

As Cao mentioned in her recent Vogue interview, her pieces are a result of how Singapore’s multi-cultural society has influenced her. Most of her pieces are made of cotton, which is suitable for our humid climate, while it also offers more statement pieces like a mesh top that’s great for layering.

#4: The brand is both accessible and affordable

An eyelet midi skirt from her Resort ’16 collection is priced at $99.90, while dresses are priced slightly above $100. Neither too cheap nor too exorbitant, the label occupies that space between fast fashion and luxury brands as one that caters to the modern working woman with fuss-free, wearable pieces.

#5: Streetstyle stars and celebrities are fans too

International style stars like Chriselle Lim and local celebrities like Jeanette Aw have previously been spotted in Exhibit, and we expect to see it worn by more fashion folks thanks to Cao’s growing popularity on social media.

The Exhibit Fall/Winter 2016 show presented by Charles & Keith takes place next Friday, October 28, 10.30pm at the National Gallery.
