1. Colour explosion

Strong, striking colours were all across the fall/winter 2019 runways, ensuring that this fashion season would be anything but drab. From Kenzo and Issey Miyake to Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, every colour in the rainbow was accounted for.

2. Cinch it up

The female form of the season is one that’s snatched around the waist with a belt. From chunky, statement belts in Sacai, dainty, understated iterations used in Hermès to unique, contemporary shapes created by Virgil Abloh’s Off-White, take your pick and choose your poison.

BUY:

Leather belt, price available in store, Gucci

fall winter 19 office wear

For days when you’re going for a sleek look, a thinner belt should be your accessory of choice. We love this Gucci design for its cool, boxy G buckle that differs from the usual rounded alphabet iteration. Play up the sharp lines with a tailored pantsuit.

Gold chain belt, £24 (S$40), Topshop

In fashion, one of the worst sins you can commit is to be static and unchanging. So don’t be stuck in your ways and always depend on the usual leather belt. Opt instead for a metal alternative such as this chain number from Topshop.

3. Dark romanticism

Florals might be a staple for the brighter spring/summer months, but the runways have dictated that this F/W season feature its fair share of the blooming glories. Think floral prints made with deeper, darker colours. Alexander McQueen, Dries van Noten and Prada were some of the houses that had channeled the mystery of night blooming flowers.

4. Time For Tartan

Tartan prints of varying sizes and colours were another key feature of F/W’19. Maria Grazia Chiuri of Christian Dior went simply with the classic tartan colours of black and white, green and red. Rei Kawakuno’s Comme Des Garcons on the other hand, made a statement showing with yellow while Pringle of Scotland impressed with a playful mix of patterns.

BUY:

Cotton shirt, S$740, Burberry

We can’t discuss tartan without mentioning Burberry. The iconic house print is transformed into a slouchy collar shirt that screams andryognous chic. Layer it over a white t-shirt or french tuck it for a smart casual finish.

Tartan need not be frumpy and boring. Here, Pomelo Fashion adds its own twist with this playful orange rendition. Go monochromatic with an orange top or let the skirt pop against a black shirt.

5. Hand me the chains

Part jewellery and part handbag, chain straps are back. Carolina Herrera, Altuzarra and Chloe were some labels that put out bags embellished with metal chains. Go with thinner links for a more sophisticated finish or chunky chains for a grungy edge.
