A recent survey of 5,000 influential fashion and architecture insiders placed Paris as the most elegant city. We turn to Ramesh Nair (above), creative director of luxury label Moynat and Parisian transplant (he’s lived there for 19 years), for an insider guide to his adopted home and cultural obsessions.

Favourite Architecture

He calls the Louis Vuitton Foundation an emblem of Paris’ modern architecture.

“As a fan of the Brutalist movement, the Centre Georges Pompidou is groundbreaking for overturning many architectural conventions. I also love how the Frank Gehry-designed Louis Vuitton Foundation has a certain sense of audaciousness to it. You need a couple of such modern symbols in a city.”

Go-To Restaurant

“MG Road is a small bistro (205 Rue Saint-Martin) run by a friend of mine. It serves vegetarian food, which is not easy to find in Paris, with an Indian-French fusion style. I always call ahead to request for its off-the-menu specials.”

Book Recommendation

“The Poetics of Space by French philosopher Gaston Bachelard (explores the writer’s childhood home and its imaginary spaces) was released in 1957. This is its first English translation.”

Film Inspiration

The autumnal shades in Far From Heaven (2002) inspired an entire Moynat collection.

“Far From Heaven (2002) has such stunning visuals that we’ve done an entire collection based on its colour palette of autumnal reds and earthy colours.”

It Accessory

Petite Rejane croco top-handle bag, Moynat

“The camouflage-inspired Petite Rejane top-handle bag from S/S ’18 is our most expensive piece. The (palm frond) prints are hand-painted onto the croco via a new and complex technique.”

Haute Property

Think of Tiffany & Co.’s update of its popular Return To Tiffany line going the route of Brooklyn: more hipster-cool and fashionable. The line of charm jewellery, which debuted in 1969, is known for its “Please return to Tiffany & Co. New York” inscription. This month, it introduces over 20 youthful designs (from $130 for a silver charm to $12,300 for an 18K rose gold charm necklace), with the most eye-catching ones engraved with graffiti-style hearts and arrows, and Pollock-esque splotches in robin blue enamel.

London Timefashion updates

While the Brexit deal still hangs in the balance (Britain’s parliament has to vote for the official exit by Dec 2018 or January 2019), Swatch has already made the call. Its Brit-In collection (from $82), launching January 11, features 16 timepieces that toasts all things Britannia. Expect watch dials and straps plastered with quintessentially Brit motifs and prints, such as houndstooth and Fair Isle patterns, and English hunting scenes.
