Before we call out “It’s a wrap” for 2016, we look back at the fashion images that defined our editorials this year. The way we’re doing it: By bestowing our own awards to these pictures. Enjoy.
Title: The X Factor
Month: March 2016
Photographer: Joel Low
Stylist: Imran Jalal
Why: This shoot celebrated the different music tribes in fashion for the Spring/Summer season. Weeks after, Anthony Vaccarello (who designed the super sexy Versus looks here) was announced as Hedi Slimane’s replacement at Saint Laurent (represented here by the denim combo). Uncanny or just psychic?
Title: Pretty As A Picture
Month: September 2016
Photographer: Gary Chew
Stylist: Imran Jalal
Why: Sometimes Instagram-stalking has its perks. We discovered the up-and-coming fashion photographer on social media and was immediately enamoured by his old-school way of working with Polaroids and film.

Title: Sea Change
Month: July 2016
Photographer: Chuck Reyes
Stylist: Tok Wei Lun
Why: Props alone (no pun intended) for hauling in a giant boulder to the studio for this nautical-inspired Pre-fall spread.
Title: The Great Escape
Month: June 2016
Photographer: Joel Low
Stylist: Imran Jalal
Why: Because we checked in into a $13,500-a night villa in Bintan and had the model lounge around all day long in the villa and in the pool — all in the name of work.
Title: The Party People VIP Edition
Month: December 2016
Photographer: Zaphs Zhang
Stylist: Imran Jalal
Why: Not only did we gather three of the most happening male artistes in Singapore (read: Shigga Shay, Nathan Hartono and The Lion City Boy) of the moment, we were treated to an impromptu song performance from the trio.
Title: New World Order
Month: September 2016
Photographer: Vee Chin
Stylist: Imran Jalal
Why: You know how some designers street cast their models for fashion shows? We literally stumbled upon Kurt Pereira during dinner one night at Fortune Centre. With his striking features and body art, we knew we had to shoot him in an editorial. Little did we know he’s one of the rising names in the local tattoo scene — and that made him the perfect candidate for our feature on the new radicals changing the creative scene here. Call it serendipitous.
Title: Freestylin’
Month: December 2016
Photographer: Chuck Reyes
Stylist: Noelle Loh
Why: Skating is the in thing now, so of course we had to include them in a street-inspired spread for the Cruise ’17 season.

Title: Rave New World
Month: December 2016
Photographer: Ivanho Harlim & Shysilia Novita
Stylist: Imran Jalal
Why: Trivia: It took three hairstylists two hours and plenty of yarn to create the dreads for the models of this raver-themed spread.
Title: The Art Of Zen
Month: October 2016
Photographer: Stefan Khoo
Stylist: Tok Wei Lun
Why: Shot at the Japanese Garden, this Zen-inflicted fashion shoot features Finnish model Anu Maarit in some major contortions.
