It’s official: this season the ballet flat and its lookalikes are taking over the runways, for men and women.
From Jean Paul Gaultier’s models walking down the runway in pointe shoes to the thick ballet shoe-like ribbons wrapped around the ankles of models in Ralph & Russo and Farhad Re, it’s safe to assume that the influence of the humble shoe isn’t going anywhere.
While the thought of the ballet may have you thinking of dainty shoes, this season’s take is edgy-meets-elegant. Elevate a pair of pumps, flats and even sandals with an intricate criss-cross over the ankles, or experiment with the thickness of the ribbons to go from casual to dressy.
