#NEW pic of Gigi and Ashton Eaton on the cover of Vogue US August 2016 issue, also posted by her on Instagram with the caption: 'An ultimate dream come true, I am beyond humbled. Shooting my first American @voguemagazine cover, in my hometown, was so surreal. And to be able to share it with Olympic Gold Medalist and my new friend #AshtonEaton is such an honor. I couldn't think of a cover I'd rather be on than the one celebrating athletes. Being an athlete has brought so much pride and joy to my life and has instilled the work ethic that still drives me every day. To Anna, @mariotestino, @tonnegood & everyone at Vogue- thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me, teaching me, showing me the world, and being such a pleasure to work with. ❤️ To @luizmattos1906 and my @imgmodels family, I don't thank you guys enough- I appreciate you so much. We did it!!!!!!! This one's dedicated to my biggest inspirations to work hard, my family, to all my coaches throughout my life 🏐🐎 and of course to the fans that have stuck by me from the start!!! Feeling extremely blessed. x', today July 14th. // I'M SO PROUD OF YOU GI, YOUR FIRST VOGUE US COVER!! I'm so happy for everything you've achieved so far, your hard work has paid off!! It was the August 2016 issue (themed around the Olympics), and though she shares it with athlete Ashton Eaton, it can still be considered a milestone in her career.

#2: Her relationship with Zayn Malik went very public

This year’s Met Gala represented the first time the power couple took to the red carpet together. Hadid’s look was perfectly on point with the theme (man meets machine, basically).

#3: She designed an entire collection with Tommy Hilfiger

Making its debut at New York Fashion Week
, the show was a total media circus, with the likes of Taylor Swift and Martha Hunt turning up to show their support for Hadid. We hear from insiders that the collection sold extremely well – more proof of her appeal.

#4: She owned fashion month

While the Hadid sisters collectively did extremely well this season, it was older sister Gigi who really sealed the deal: she opened five shows and closed another seven – and that’s not even counting the other shows she walked in.

One of fashion month’s highlights was when she closed Bottega Veneta’s 50th anniversary show together with one of the most legendary supermodels, Laura Hutton. They made for an extremely adorable pair walking together – the original all-American girl meets her contemporary counterpart.

#5: She hosted the American Music Awards

Though it was her first time hosting, she more than looked the part in at least six outfit changes. Our favourite? This custom Atelier Versace number that made her look like a real life Jessica Rabbit.

#6: She was voted model of the year

Capping off her fantastic year was her big win at this year’s British Fashion Awards – Hadid clinched the International Model of the Year award over her little sister Bella and BFF Kendall Jenner. How significant, exactly, was this award? It’s voted on by industry insiders instead of the public, cementing Hadid’s current status in the business.
