17-year-old Belgium teenager Annelies van Overbeek’s Instagram account showcases her deft ability to recreate popular characters like Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series to princess Belle from Disney. The one look she aces, from the pink lipstick right down to the updo and the black gloves? Audrey Hepburn’s classic get-up in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
#2: Suicide Squad’s Harley Quinn
Thinking of dyeing your locks? A bright blue shade a la Harley Quinn’s character in Suicide Squad will serve as inspiration. Channel the supervillain this Halloween with her signature double ponytails, a mini heart tattoo (easily drawn using a liquid-based eyeliner) on the right cheek, torn fishnet leggings and a varsity jacket.
#3: Disney’s Snow White
The princess character is a sweetheart, but there’s always a way to add a sinister touch: Just smear your red lipstick and your eyeshadow, and draw on fake scars while you’re at it. Accessorise with a red ribboned hairband to play up that innocent, girly air.
#4: Legendary musician David Bowie
Bowie left an indelible mark on top fashion designers like Riccardo Tisci, Frida Giannini and Raf Simons season after season. This Ziggy Stardust-inspired makeup look, complete with a flaming red wig, ticks all the right boxes – all that’s left to do is to dress just like Bowie did too (think printed bodysuits and jumpsuits).
