Thanks to Chinese New Year (next week!), you’ve probably seen way too much of the colour red. Repetto’s take on the predictable hue is refreshingly chic.
The French are usually bastions of good taste, so if there’s anybody to trust for a fail-proof take on a predictable/cliche/overdone trend, it makes sense to turn to a classic Parisian label. Cue ballerina brand Repetto, which has been making buttery soft ballet flats since 1947 – its professional dance shoes are worn by the dancers of the Paris Opera, while its everyday designs (adapted from its professional ones) have always been a hit with the cool crowd, including ultimate French cool dude Serge Gainsbourg.
Its stores here (#03-15B Ion Orchard and #01-13 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands) have gone big on the colour red for obvious reasons, but the simple, typically French aesthetic means they won’t look cliche tomorrow when you go on that V-day date, or next week when you’re making your Chinese New Year visiting rounds. There’s the Cendrillon flat ($420), the brand’s signature style created in 1956 on the request of Brigette Bardot, in flame red patent leather – very little girl pretty; the Flexion leather wallet (price unavailable), a classic zip style with an understated logo in gold hardware; and the Mini Arabesque leather tote ($580) that has a youthful, ballerina charm with a drawstring closure and shoulder sling.
Sounds like stuff you could wear even after V-day and the Lunar New Year, no?
