There’s a new supermodel in town and her name doesn’t end with a Jenner, Kardashian or Hadid. Fashion fiends will already know ’90s supermodel (and we mean this in its original sense) Cindy Crawford’s teenage daughter, Kaia Gerber, just walked her first ever runway show at New York Fashion Week.
Though she just turned all of 16 a week ago, Gerber looks poised to follow in her legendary mother’s footsteps – and dethrone Kendall, Gigi and Bella Hadid as the reigning models of the moment. Here, we look at 5 reasons why she’ll be so:
#1: She made her runway debut at Calvin Klein
As industry insiders will know, Calvin Klein is the most prestigious show a new model can walk for at New York Fashion Week. The brand usually holds the exclusives for many a runway debut and models can usually expect their careers to soar after walking at Calvin Klein. Not only that, Calvin Klein was also one of the brands closely associated with making Gerber’s mother, Cindy Crawford, a household name, back in the ’90s. It seems only fitting that the original all-American supermodel’s offspring should make her runway debut at a similarly all-American label.
#2: Have you seen how fierce her walk is?
Nor did Gerber’s takeover of NYFW stop there – she opened for Alexander Wang’s show and also starred in Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma spectacle. Though Gerber has only a few shows under her belt, her confident runway gait would have you thinking she’s a veteran of many years. In fact, some are already comparing Gerber’s walk to another supermodel famed for her distinctive walk – Naomi Campbell.
I wouldn’t be surprised though – she’s probably been working her walk for years under her mother’s tutelage.
#3: She was already in Vogue at the age of 3
This picture, shot for Vogue by legendary photog Patrick Demarchelier, came out in 2004, and I think it was already clear even back then, that Gerber would grow up to be a beauty. Most of us will never be in Vogue, much less at the age of 3. Can you say fashion royalty?
#4: She’s already fronting her first beauty campaign
Most of us were probably struggling with acne, puberty and what not at the age of 15 but Gerber was signed on by none other than star-maker Marc Jacobs, who signed the budding model as the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty last year.
#5: She’s the spitting image of Cindy Crawford
From the thick, bushy brows to the hazel eyes, all Gerber’s missing is her mum’s signature mole.
