11 Looks We'd Love To See Meghan Markle Wear For The Royal Wedding

Britain’s Prince Harry and former 'Suits' star Meghan Markle announced their engagement on Nov. 27, 2017. Clarence House released a statement on Monday morning that Harry had informed the Queen, as well as other close family members, and that the wedding would take place in the spring. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. Markle’s parents said in a similar statement that they were "incredibly happy" for the pair: "Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person," they added. "To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents." Harry, 33, and Los Angeles-born Markle, 36, have been dating for at least 15 months. They met for the first time in London in July 2016, when they were introduced by a mutual friend, and made their first public appearance together at the Invictus Games last September. So yes, royal family enthusiasts will undoubtedly have heard all about Prince Harry’s engagement to American actress Meghan Markle – set to take place next spring, it looks to be the wedding of the year.

Judging from Markle’s previous red carpeting outings, she appears to be very American – clean, classic looks seems to be her MO; think white shirts and faded blue jeans. Even the cream coat she wore to announce the engagement goes along the same lines.

So with that in mind, we’ve came up with 11 modern looks (no princess-y ball gowns here, thank you very much) that we’d love to see her in for the royal wedding:

#1: Rodarte Spring 2018
We adored Rodarte’s hyper-romantic Spring 2018 show that was held in Paris (for the first time), and this dress, one of three closing numbers, would be perfect for a fairytale wedding. #2: Lela Rose Bridal Spring 2018
Featuring an unusual strapless neckline, this Lela Rose number is both elegant and has just that extra bit of pizzazz to make it memorable. #3: Alexander McQueen Spring 2017
Seeing as Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen designed her soon-to-be sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, chances are high that Markle might turn to the British house again. While it’ll undoubtedly be a custom-designed piece, I’m hoping for modifications to be made to this one-of-a-kind gown from the Spring 2017 collection, which was inspired by mermaids rising from the sea. Can’t get more poetic than that, can you? #4: Oscar de la Renta Bridal Spring 2018
This frothy Oscar de la Renta strapless gown goes for a slightly more casual look while retaining a contemporary vibe. #5: Elie Saab Bridal Spring 2018
Capes make everything look more elevated and this Elie Saab piece is a prime example. #6: Viktor & Rolf Bridal Spring 2018
While I’m not a fan of big fancy ball gowns, this Viktor & Rolf number gets my nod of approval for keeping everything else clean and minimal – as it should be (not a fan of lace, sorry). #7: Carolina Herrera Bridal Spring 2018
This modest, cold-shouldered Carolina Herrera design will ensure that Markle looks timeless in decades to come. #8: The Row Spring 2018
Ditto for this ’90s-esque spaghetti-strapped number from The Row – it reminds me of OG minimalist icon Caroline Bessette (FYI she was married to JFK Junior)’s super-streamlined wedding dress from Narciso Rodriguez.  Just change the colour to ivory and it’s wedding-appropriate. Timeless and failproof – unlike Kate Middleton’s McQueen wedding dress, which already looks dated with the lace-y sleeves. #9: Valentino Spring 2017 couture
The delicate tulle overlay just adds that extra dose of je ne sais quoi to the beautiful embellished gown. Besides, Valentino is always a great choice for weddings. #11: Chanel Resort 2018
Chanel’s Resort 2018 collection was a hit with the Female team (and I imagine, customers everywhere), and this Greek goddess gown, which was the closing look, is both striking yet simple. Like this?
