Missoni

While Instagram girls will have you believe that less is more, everywhere else there’s a rise in modern modest fashion brands, and it’s no longer just religiously-motivated. The foundation is pretty strong: Net-A-Porter has a modest category, Uniqlo has repeated collections with British-Japanese Muslim fashion designer, Hana Tajima and there’s even a luxury specialist modest fashion e-commerce store called The Modist, stocking a roll call of some of the biggest names in fashion, including Ann Demeulemeester, Missoni and Erdem. If you’re looking for modest fashion brands closer to home, here are some of our favourites to check out.

#1: Biyan

This Indonesian high fashion designer is not new to the game. Known for his breathtaking pieces, each one is a work of art with a painstaking attention to detail. Inspired by his native country, the line combines elements from Indonesian culture with Western couture, resulting in an ethereal, eclectic mix of vibrant prints and delicate embellishments, with some one-of-a-kind pieces hand-embroidered with original patchwork silk and lace.
