Jason Wu

Art Destination

Coronation of Sesostris (2000) by Cy Twombly, acrylic, wax crayon and lead pencil on canvas

“New York’s Gagosian Gallery always has the most interesting exhibitions and artists – from extremely established names (cue Cy Twombly and his recently concluded exhibition Coronation Of Sesostris) to new up-and-comers (like painter Jonas Wood, whose prints are on showcase for the first time till May 25).”

Favourite Artist

“(German Modernist guru) Josef Albers – I always look to his works for their colours and composition.”

Restaurant Find

“Sant Ambroeus is a quaint Italian restaurant in New York’s West Village that I visit almost every week. It’s comfortable, intimate, and the food is always good.”

He recommends Sant Ambroeus in New York’s West Village for good Italian grub.

Movie Inspiration

“It would have to be Belle de Jour (1967). I love everything about it: from the Yves Saint Laurent costumes – Yves is my idol, really – to watching Catherine Deneuve in her prime.”

He loves everything about Belle de Jour (1967), from the stars to the Yves Saint Laurent wardrobe.

Design Hero

“I’ve long admired the work of (French architect and designer-to-the-stars) Joseph Dirand. He recently designed the amazing (Art Deco- and ’70s-inspired) interiors of the Four Seasons Hotel Residences in Miami.”

He adores the modern touch of French architect and designer Joseph Dirand, who decked out the interiors of Miami’s Four Seasons Hotel Residences.

On His Reading List

“Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*** was a birthday gift. It’s really funny and life-coaching at the same time. You know how some of us tend to always overthink everything? Basically this book tells you that it’s simply better to not care so much.”

Furniture Haunt

“All the furniture I own is vintage. They don’t have to be works of famous people, though mid-century modern American designer Paul McCobb is my favourite. It’s the era from which the piece originates that attracts me more. I get a lot of furniture from 1stDibs.com, which sources from vintage dealers across the country.”

Paul McCobb – his works were rereleased at the Salone del Mobile fair last month – is his furniture hero.

Standout S/S’18 Look

Wu adds a sexy edge to American sportswear
for S/S ’18.

“The striped cut-out dress that Bella Hadid (wore for the runway show) sums up what the collection is about: sexy and modern. It’s more relaxed than what I usually do, but still very feminine, with a sense of polish and sophistication, while being sporty at the same time.”
