To hear Repetto and Tsumori Chisato coming together for a collaboration is akin to getting Adele and Nicki Minaj to collaborate on a track. But that unlikely pairing between the French shoemaker and Japanese fashion brand just what happened and the result are two pairs of seriously adorable versions of the Repetto’s iconic Zizi Oxford lace-ups.
Iconic in particular because the said shoes were made famous by singer Serge Gainsbourg — the ’70s French equivalent of Harry Styles — who made his part of his devil-may-care uniform. Never mind that the shoes were originally made for the ballerina Zizi Jeanmaire, the daughter in-law of Repetto’s founder. Known for their soft and comfortable feel, the Zizi shoes incorporate Repetto’s “stitch and return” technique which sees the soles being sewn from the inside out.
Fast-forward to today, and it’s the turn of the quirky cool Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato to lend her touch to this house classic. As part of a capsule collection launching this month, two specially-designed Zizi lace-ups will be stocked at the Repetto’s The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands store. Available in ivory and ebony, each pair displays Chisato’s well-known love for felines. The pattern on the shoes ($690 each) is made up of polka dots and cat paws, while the tongue of the shoes is designed to look like cat’s ears.
If Gainsbourg wore his Zizi’s with his smoking tuxedos and denims (in short, tres chic), then these ones are perfect for days when you want to go all out with big flouncy skirts and a little more personality in your getup.
