1. What’s your life motto?
It’s actually a quote by Audrey Hepburn: “The most important thing is to enjoy your life, to be happy, it’s all that matters.”
2. How did you begin your career as a model?
I was scouted to join The New Paper New Face modelling competition when I was 16 and out of curiosity, I did. It was a whole new experience for me and I learnt so much from that competition – from learning how to walk the runway to having the right attitude when it comes to modelling.
As The New Paper was also organising the Miss Universe Singapore pageant the year after, the head recruiter invited me to join the pageant once again. I was hesitant at first, because I was skeptical about pageants, but my mum told me to just go for it for fun.
In the end, I had a great time and learnt so much. I was also the youngest in the pageant and to my surprise emerged as the first runner-up at the Miss Universe Singapore 2016 competition. I eventually got signed to Basic Models Management and started my journey working as a full-time model. Best. Decision. Ever
3. What’s your most memorable modelling job?
It would be the firs commercial job I ever got. It was an advertisement for Waso Shiseido. I remember getting the text from my head booker Bonita Ma informing me that I got the job and I was literally jumping for joy because Shiseido was a brand I grew up with.
I used to walk around shopping malls and see photos of models posing with bottles of Shiseido essence and I told myself one day I could be there – me, a woman of colour – modelling for Shiseido. So you could imagine my excitement when I got that notification.
The shoot was amazing – it was a hot, sunny day and the whole crew worked hard to create the perfect ad. It was an experience I can never forget.
4. What’s one item of clothing you cannot live without?
Mini dresses! I love how versatile they are. I love how I can dress them up with a pair of high-heels for a nice dinner date, or how I can dress them down to look sporty with a pair of my all-white Nike Cortez sneakers when I’m running my errands.
5. What’s on your Spotify Playlist?
I’m an oldies fan. I love ’70s and ’80s music, from the likes of Eagles, Journey, Europe, Bon Jovi, Lionel Ritchie, Michael Jackson, Chicago, and Air Supply. I blame my dad for my obsession with old music because my dad is a musician and would always only play this kind of music.
I also listen to a lot of 2000s and New Age R&B – cue Nelly, Ne-Yo, Usher, Mario, 112, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Chris Brown and Drake.
6. What are three interesting facts about you?
I can play the piano (my father is a pianist), I love the football club Liverpool, and I’m a huge Audrey Hepburn fan.
7. Who’s your favourite model?
My favourite model of all time is Naomi Campbell. As one of the original supermodels in the ’90s, it is so inspiring to me how a woman of colour can make it so far in this cut-throat industry. I respect her tenacity and her vision to succeed in the industry. She didn’t shy away from the fact that she was different from the ‘normal’ standard of beauty back those days when designers would never use people as colour as models, or when makeup artists never had her shade of foundation.
I once read an article that said how Campbell was instrumental in breaking down barriers for black women in modelling and fashion, but she said there’s still a way to go until we see parity. To me, she is the epitome of a strong-minded, tenacious and brilliant goddess who has fought for models of colour, diversity and equality.
8. How do you achieve model skin?
I have a night-time skincare routine that I would never miss. When it comes to skincare, The Ordinary is my holy grail. My skin used to flare up randomly, but not anymore. I start with their Squalane Cleanser. I usually double cleanse – using this cleanser as a remover first for my make up then again as a face wash.
My next step is to tone my face with their Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. This baby removes all the gunk and nasties off my face; it works every time. I then use the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% to reduce the appearance of my pores and clear up any blemishes I might have from makeup used on set or during the time of the month.
Next is my favourite part: serum time. I use the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 hydrator to hydrate my skin because I have really dry skin, and then top it off with the Natural Mosturizing Factors + Ha moisturiser to hydrate my skin on the surface.
My last step is to apply their Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG to reduce the appearance of my eye contour pigmentation and puffiness. I dare say The Ordinary is the best skincare line because not only are the products effective, they’re super affordable too.

1. What’s your life motto?
It’s to “think of life as a movie, make it as interesting as possible.” With all the good and bad that happens in my life, I want to be able to look back at everything that I have done as if I were watching a film about my life and not feel a tinge of regret. Taking each moment as a part of my story and experience, then move on.

7. What would you be doing if you are not a model?
