The look started out as a men’s thing last year with Balenciaga’s Triple S: chunky, more-is-more, sporty lace-ups. Many baulked, but that didn’t stop them from becoming It (or a hot ticket on the resale market). Now, the “Frankensneaker” trend crosses over officially into women’s. Louis Vuitton’s Archlights are inspired by hiking and running shoes, yet channel Stormtrooper-goes-street. The ones from Tod’s look like a cross between ’80s Air Force 1 high-tops and moccasins, while Loewe reimagines babouche slippers as trainers, complete with curled toes. The most serious fashion fiends probably already have them on wait list. Expect the same mania to follow.
