Before New York Fashion Week calls it a wrap tomorrow, there’s already a new way to accessorise next season. And it is a, well, wrap. For your head that is. Unlike the more common flapper girl-era style that comes with an evening quotient, the ones that are dominating Fashion Week have a more Afro vibe.

The look is reminiscent of plain cloth turbans called tignons that Creole women in the American South used to wear back in the 18th century. Fast forward to today, and the look becomes a dramatic accessory seen across various shows in New York this past week.

The two brands that deserve a place in the spotlight: Tia Cibani, whose easy tunics and minimalist creations look even more effortless with the more traditional interpretation of the tignon, and Desigual, which took the cake with its sky high Erykah Badu-worthy turban (extra points for the trinkets and adornments that the brand used to decorate the look).
