It’s officially the busiest week in SG’s fashion calendar. Here’s Female‘s guide to getting your style A-game – show invite not required.
The Official Singapore Fashion Week Pop-up It’s a first-of-its-kind initiative that champions what we think Singapore Fashion Week (SFW) ought to truly be about: homegrown talents. Five local labels: Aijek, Cruise by Saturday’s Nicolas Wong (see clothes above), In Good Company, Reckless Ericka’s jersey line Reckless Jersey, and Womb have created exclusive capsule collections. Joining the mix: The latest collections by nine other Singaporean brands, including jewellers Carrie K and Marilyn Tan as well as Ong Shunmugam, known for her modern interpretations of the cheongsam that would trump half of what went down the Met gala red carpet last week. (Read more: 7 Things We Learned About China From the 2015 Met Gala).
The same project puts the spotlight on emerging talents from our shores and beyond: Discover the likes of French-American bag designer Delphine Delafon (see bags above), New York-based Studmuffin (think Miley Cyrus-approved street wear attacked with a stud gun) and French illustrator Garance Dore‘s collaboration with American hipster stationer Rifle Paper Co. Tangs Orchard Level 2, till May 20
Debut of Velda Tan’s Collate The Label: The former Love Bonito founder/owner of Pince & Pints/Singapore’s #1 #girlboss will reveal her highly anticipated label at the Tent@Orchard at 8pm as part of Singapore Fashion Week (single seat tickets still available at press time here). Based on whatever little images that have been released (including the one above), expect modern yet feminine everyday pieces in the vein of Tan’s personal style. But if you can’t get in on that, just scoot down to the Tangs Pop-up the next day – a small selection will be up for grabs before the whole section gets converted into a full-fledged Collate the Label pop-up on May 18. Tangs Orchard, from May 16
Lasalle College of the Arts SG50 Capsule exhibition: In August, the graduating class of the art school’s Fashion Design and Textiles BA (Hons) programme will retail a 150-piece ready-to-wear collection in collaboration with Tangs. This week, get a sneak peek (read: for display only) at the plaza of the department store’s Orchard Road branch. Tangs Orchard Plaza, May 16
Redvalentino (yup, one word) opens at Ngee Ann City: The younger, saccharine sweet (and more affordable) sister label to Valentino relocates from Ion Orchard to Ngee Ann City (above). At 1,210sq ft, it carries the full range of ready-to-wear and accessories within a girlish, whimsical white-washed space – not too bad a place to visit when you’re looking to kill time between the SFW shows taking place at the Tent downstairs. #03-15 Ngee Ann City
Superspace 1st anniversary pop-up: The definitive store for Club Kid fashion co-founded by some of Singapore’s most definitive Club Kids (hey look it’s Bobby Luo (@pingponganda), Revasseur’s Gilda Su and the team from Mash-Up) celebrates its first birthday this Saturday with a pop-up where everything’s going 20 per cent off. Brands include Yesah, KTZ, Joyrich and Bernard Willhelm. Orchardgateway atrium, May 16
