Launched in collaboration with acclaimed tattoo artist Saira Hunjan, who has inked the likes of Kate Moss and Jude Law, it sees the Italian house’s iconic Double T messenger bag tattooed with a chimaera featuring a lion’s head (Tod’s mascot) merged with a dragon’s body.
Though Hunjan is an old hand at tattooing, working with leather is markedly different from tattooing people – it can apparently take up to 22 hours for her to complete the tattoos on just one bag, according to WWD.
Nor is the line merely confined to the Double T bag – men (and women) can also get a foot in on the action with the brand’s famous Gommino loafers, sneakers and casual slip-ons, which feature digital prints of Hunjan’s drawings.
Model Suki Waterhouse and Hunjan herself fronts the campaign for this collection and we think it’s a pretty sweet way of acknowledging her work for the house.
Personally, we think it’s a great artistic reinterpretation of a house classic and it’s a pretty bold move of Tod’s to embrace working with an atypical artform. The limited edition collection is already in stores.
