#1: Pink and red

The most striking colour combination that was sent down the runway this season is none other than pink and red. The two complementary, romantic shades helped to create some very glamourous, red-carpet ready looks, such as a halter neck top and bold maxi skirt outfit from Brandon Maxwell, and a figure-hugging gown from Christian Siriano.

That’s not to say that this powerful colour combination can’t be worn on regular days too – a slouchy and comfortable look a la Prabal Gurung looks effortlessly chic, while layering a jacket or cardigan over a feminine dress, like at Self Portrait, is a styling trick everyone is sure to emulate next season.

Carolina Herrera

Have a huge presentation that you need to ace in the office? Or just want to feel like superwoman? Then this ultra elegant and eye-catching suit from Carolina Herrera is the look to rock.

#2: Seriously oversized earrings

We are not talking about the run-off-the-mill oversized, but seriously, extravagantly oversized. Want to have an animal dangling off your ear? Then Brandon Maxwell is the one to go to. For a more sophisticated take, Tom Ford presented breathtaking chandelier earrings that reached all the way down to the collarbone.

Prabal Gurung took classic pearls and gave them a contemporary twist by adorning models with elongated, asymmetrical pear earrings that looked both modern yet still timeless. For a fun night out partying it up, Zadig & Voltaire‘s metallic, fringe earrings will transfrom you immediately to a reigning disco queen.

#3: Animal prints

Animal prints have existed since time immemorial, and are now a dominant trend for F/W’18. The ageless leopard print trench coat from Victoria Beckham is sure to sell out once it hits stores, while the off-the-shoulder tunic from Adam Selman gives off an alluring vibe while showing just enough skin.

From L to R: Michael Kors, 3.1 Phillip Lim

Animal prints showed up in a multitude of accessories too – Michael Kors gave us a thick and luxurious leopard print scarf that will certainly pair well with anything, while over at 3.1 Phillip Lim, models stomped the runway in comfortable-looking, zebra-print boots.

Tom Ford

The title for the most inventive take on the classic animal print, however, goes to Tom Ford, who created a number of leopard-print looks in a wide variety of shades, from red to purple to green. This head-to-toe leopard print suit (with heels to match) is definitely one of the most memorable.

#4: Shades of blue

Blue is one of the most versatile colours – apart from the usual blacks and whites and greys – to play around with, so no wonder a series of blue-centric looks appeared on the runway. Carolina Herrera stuck to her signature of graceful, exquisite evening looks, and served up this simple yet stunning striped blue number. Meanwhile, Jason Wu successfully experimented with drapes and textures for a truly lovely outfit.

From L to R: Derek Lam, Tibi

To adopt this blue trend for every day, simply wear a pair of your good ol’ jeans with a sweater or top in a darker shade, just like at Derek Lam. Or, take inspiration from Tibi and don a top, cardigan and scarf in the same blue shade, and finish off with a pair of stylish pants in a lighter blue colour.

#5: White boots

From L to R: Prabal Gurung, Self Portrait

The white boots trend has been around for some time now, but it was out in full force on the NYFW runways. Several different variations were shown, and whether paired with dresses, pants or skirts, they all worked, which proves just how versatile this style is. On both the Prabal Gurung and Self Portrait runways, we saw ankle-length, pointed toe boots with a black heel. While the latter gave us a classic cut, the former presented an interesting, sculptural heel.

For something with a bit more detail, look for boots with laces and straps. The laced-up Tibi boots are the perfect height to wear with a pair of culottes or a midi skirt, while the strappy boots from Zadig & Voltaire give off a tough-girl, biker-chic vibe.

From L to R: Calvin Klein, Tory Burch

If you’re heading to somewhere cold and need all the protection you can get, then the knee-high boots from Calvin Klein – which has a slight space-age and futuristic feel – might be ideal. Otherwise, the textured, low-cut boots from Tory Burch is versatile enough to be worn with anything – floral print tea dresses, skirt suits, a pair of jeans and more.
