Japanese casual wear brand Uniqlo opens its global flagship for Southeast Asia at #01-01 Orchard Central on Friday, September 2 2016. Take a video tour of the 30,000 sq ft-wide space, which spans three levels and houses exclusive products, cool visual displays by Singapore artists and more. By Isabel Ong.
What you’ll see when you step into the new flagship in the heart of town: Rotating mannequin displays showcasing various ways to style the brand’s casual wardrobe staples. The first floor also houses the brand’s largest collection of cashmere items as well as a UT (aka Uniqlo T-shirt) space spanning half of the first floor, stocking exclusive designs from collaborations with Olympia Le-Tan and SPRZ NY (a collective that reproduces images by the likes of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring).
This is also the first and only store that will champion work with local creatives. With 286 digital display screens scattered around all three floors, the brand has partnered with local artists like William Chan of PHUNK (studio) and Yin Shanyang of SWARM. The shopping bags, all available in limited quantities for shoppers, are designed by homegrown illustrators such as Mightyellow, who’s created works for Facebook and Adidas. And that’s not all: Head up to the third floor and you’ll find the brand’s Good Neighbour Guide display, which showcases hip spots in town like K+ Curatorial Space, made up of a retail store, a gallery and a communal area.
