The Rad Return: Lowrider Jeans
One of Alexander McQueen’s most rebellious and game-changing silhouettes. A symbol of freedom for skater kids and hip-hop stars. Without it, Christina Aguilera wouldn’t have been as “dirrty”, while Britney Spears would have remained “not yet a woman”. One of the most divisive pieces in ’90s street-influenced fashion makes a comeback even at demure brands such as Valentino and Oscar de la Renta. Yes, you need a good bod. No, hairy guys, it’s still gross when you bend over. But we cannot deny the blithely cool, cheeky attitude that comes with it. The best part now: It’s to be worn as much with universally flattering, tucked-in shirts as it is with cropped tops.
The Statement Piece: Something In Crochet
For starters, get it right: This isn’t just any type of knit. It’s not created using needles or a machine (classic knitting), or knotted (that’s macrame). Instead, this weave with a doily-esque pattern is produced entirely by hand with a hook, and is said to not be prone to unravelling. Who’s already hooked onto such artisanal workmanship and its arty-boho effect? Luxury brands ranging from Chloe to Chanel this season, and cool, emerging labels like Gypsy Sport and TSE. Which most likely means you’ll be too.

The Wardrobe Hero: A Tank Top
If you’re thinking, “Uh, I already own at least one of these” – perfect! (Uh, assuming that it’s not crummy from years of wear and tear.) Now’s the time to elevate it from taken-for-granted basic to the modern top to anchor any look, because that’s what Calvin Klein 205W39NYC (with ball gown skirts) to The Row (with low-slung, men’s style pants) to Miu Miu (peeking out from beneath see-through dresses) are doing in S/S ’18.
