This season, in between the solid made-with-sturdy-heels-kinda-boots and statement clompers are Western boots. They’re meant for a kind of ruggedness and everyday wear — if they’re good enough for cowgirls and boys, they’re good enough for us — but yet, offer up the same fashionable rockstar cachet a la Miley and Lady Gaga. Disclaimer: we draw the line at Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson. So, what started out as a sleeper hit with brands like Calvin Klein 205W39NYC earlier this year has finally crept into almost every label; now, this shoe style is evolving into a wardrobe perennial.
At Emporio Armani F/W ’18, outfits were grounded with Western boots in rhinestone, sequin and metallic variations. The overall effect? An eclectic and youthful mash-up when contrasted with Mr Armani’s sophisticated garments. Dolce & Gabbana too took the same dressy approach to their boots, but cranked up the maximalist approach. Cue: sequin- and crystal-embroidered numbers which really, are a campy-chic Dolly Parton showgirl affair.
