hermes leather forever artscience museum

Check out Hermes’ biggest exhibition here since 2012

Making its South-east Asian debut, the main act Leather Forever is a four-year-old travelling exhibition that celebrates the material the French luxury house is built on. Running concurrently is The Little Room of Wanders (on the grass lawn next to the Asian Civilisations Museum), a prelude show specially created in honour of SG50 that displays inspirational objects from the private collection of Emile Hermes, the brand’s third generation head.

Among the fun, eclectic curios is a 19th century silk and feather parasol that Hermes bought at age 12 with his first salary; and an 1897 walking stick with a silver handle in the shape of a face, which doubles as a perfume vaporiser. Meanwhile, Leather Forever highlights the brand’s relationship with leather in equally playful ways across 12 themed rooms. For example, one section is dedicated to weird yet wonderful bespoke orders (including a lambskin apple holder), while another is a bag collector’s dream: a roomful of Kellys and Birkins in every variation possible. As part of SG50, the brand has also created five one-of-a-kind miniature Kelly Doll bags that will be showcased here. From Oct 25 to Dec 13, Level 3 ArtScience Museum, free admission
