Yohji Yamamoto’s slanted signature is like a distinction of cult cool – brandish it, and you’re immediately seen to be part of a mysterious, intellectual fashion circle. Now into its 16th year, Y-3 – his OG of a sportswear collab with Adidas – features it for the first time, alongside the tie-up’s original logo, and stamps reminding that Adidas is “the brand with the 3 stripes”. Printed on shoes and socks, the effect is so bold yet utilitarian, it’s like a wry take on logomania. Combined with the clothes – roomy, relaxed dresses and separates that mark a return to the silhouettes Y-3 originally started with – and the S/S ’18 collection is destined for the collector’s market.
