8 Products That Will Have You Posting Filter-Free Selfies

Say goodbye to hiding behind heart shapes and kitty ears. Here are eight beauty products that will have you flawless IRL

by Kayce Teo  /   June 21, 2019

Let’s face it – there’s absolutely nothing natural about social media. There’s definitely nothing effortless about the barrage of expertly executed pictures on Instagram either. Part of the fun, though, is owning the hard work (we’re all in on it, don’t worry) that comes with getting that perfect selfie. And if there are products to help with the entire production, why not? Though filters may help with our imperfections, here are eight beauty products that’ll help you achieve a flawless radiant finish in real life.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Foundation, $74 for 32ml, in 29 shades, Sephora

This foundation is designed for cameras. It has a flashback-free formula (we’re talking about that unflattering white-ish effect from the glare of a flash), which means that your skin won’t look exceptionally bright, shiny, ashy or grey in pictures. Plus, it is oil-free and promises up to 24 hours of wear, with a fresh, natural finish – perfect for Singapore’s hot and humid weather.

Clarins V-Facial Intensive Wrap, $89 for 75ml, from Clarins

This 10-minute mask, which you are supposed to apply to the lower half of your face, has Chinese barley and gingko extracts to help reduce puffiness caused by water retention. It gives you that V-shaped face which makes you look slimmer and more youthful. It also helps smooth out skin texture so your skin appears more flawless, both in pictures and in person.

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF 50+, $60, from Sephora

To give your skin that Photoshopped, airbrushed finish, try this powder foundation/sunscreen. It has blurring pigments to help diminish the appearance of pores, dark spots and fine lines to give a photo-ready finish. Plus, it has an SPF50, and ingredients such as hydrolysed silk, hydrolysed collagen, niacin and peptides to give you soft and smooth skin. You can wear it on its own on lazy days, or under makeup as a primer too.

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer, $50, from Dior and Sephora

Even if you’re a fan of matte lipsticks, you’ve got to admit that they sometimes cause your lips to look flat, especially if your lips are not exceptionally plump. To get a sexy pout a la Bella Hadid (but without the lip fillers), try this lip-plumping lip gloss from Dior. It has hyaluronic acid to keep your lips hydrated and plump it up to diminish the appearance of lip lines, so your lips look smoother, sexier and more youthful.

Jung Saem Mool Essential Cheek Blush, $30, from Escentials
image

South Korean celebrity makeup artist Jung Saem Mool, who counts Tang Wei, Kim Yuna, and Kim Tae Hee among her clients, and who has her own beauty academy and luxury hair and beauty salon chain, is known for her hybrid foundation palette. But we want to bring your attention to this blusher, which gives you a really natural glow. The formula is light and long-wearing, with pigments that do not oxidise throughout the day.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Contour Contour and Highlight Palette, $24,90, from selected retail stores
image

If you’re taking pictures in any setting without professional lighting, you will likely need to do your contouring and highlighting right to make sure your face doesn’t look flat. This palette, with its fish-tail sculpting brush, is a foolproof way of contouring and highlighting. You literally need zero skills — just sweep the brush across the palette and across the parts of your face as illustrated on the packaging – although we say go with a lighter touch if it’s really your first time using this powder and build the intensity from there.

ZA Dual-End Eyebrow, $13.90, from Watsons
image

Brows frame your face, so you should never forget to keep them well-groomed whether or not you plan to take a selfie. We like this retractable eyebrow pencil, which has a sword-like tip to draw natural-looking brows. Plus, the other end lets you fill and shade in any bald spots in your eyebrows quickly.

Nars Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner, $40, from Robinsons and Sephora
image

Regardless what type of eye look you are going for, it helps to tightline your eyes so they appear bigger and more defined in pictures. So look for an eyeliner pencil with a soft lead like this one from Nars, so you won’t run the risk of poking yourself in the eye. The rich colour glides on and stays up to 12 hours without smearing or caking.
