Collaborations are a dime a dozen these days but we have to say, some do still have the power to surprise: such as the new Aesop x Rick Owens collection, which comes across as a genuine and well-thought-out effort on both parties’ ends. Read on for more details.
Sublimage is Chanel’s most premium skincare range, with the vanilla planifolia (a species of vanilla orchid) serving as the key master ingredient. The latest product to join the range is L’Essence Fondamentale Yeux – a serum designed specifically for the eyes, which is good news for those of us with tired bags. The serum is said to help skin rejuvenate itself and illuminates the eyes by reducing the appearance of dark circles.
As with other products in the Sublimage line, the serum is enriched with polyfractioned vanilla planifolia (read: the ingredient basically gets broken down into such tiny particles so that it gets absorbed into the skin more effectively), a one-of-a-kind variety of vanilla grown in Madagascar. The other key ingredient here is solidago, which has historically been used on skin to speed up wound healing.
The serum is described to have a light gel texture that’s also fragrance-free (always a good sign for those with sensitive skin), and in a first for Chanel skincare, it also reportedly helps to densify lash and brow density.
Chanel Sublimage L’Essence Fondamentale Yeux ($351 for 15ml) is available at the brand’s e-shop and Fragrance and Beauty boutiques
When we first received the notification in our inboxes, it was a surprise – but one that made perfect sense, considering how both Rick Owens and Aesop have always championed a primordial, earthy sensibility through their respective mediums. And as we were informed, Rick Owens has long been a fan of the Australian skincare brand, having used Aesop’s hair and body care products exclusively for years.
The collaboration has birthed a limited-edition collection, which includes a travel kit that includes Owens’s favoured formulations – Coriander Seed Body Cleanser, Resolute Hydrating Body Balm, Classic Shampoo, Classic Conditioner and a special new fragrance developed exclusively for this collaboration. The latter is dubbed Stoic Eau de Toilette and is a spicy woody fragrance designed by perfumer Barnabe Fillion. It contains notes of black pepper, coriander seed, frankincense and patchouli, making for quite the piquant concoction.
There is also the accompanying Stoic Aromatique Candle (available in three sizes), which is quite a collectable in and of itself – the unusual silhouette of the ceramic vessel was inspired by the sculptures of Constantin Brancusi and Dadaist Hans Arp.
The Aesop and Rick Owens Travel Kit, $250, and Aesop and Rick Owens Stoic Aromatique Candles ($60 for 65g, $135 for 240g, $300 for 620g) are available at Aesop’s Takashimaya S.C. boutique and the brand’s online store
Welp, this is a good day for those of us with overactive oil glands – Givenchy Beauty’s newest launches will see to that.
First up is the Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Matte Foundation, which has 16 different shades. It comprises at least 82 per cent of skincare ingredients such as nasturtium extract and pink clay. Nasturtium extract, the signature ingredient of Prisme Libre foundations, promotes the oxygenation of skin cells to boost cellular metabolism, while pink clay is known for its purifying properties, and annatto extract helps to tighten pores, reduce imperfections and improve the complexion. Finally, emollients keep the skin hydrated.
All this means long-lasting moisturising matte wear, while simultaneously bringing purported skincare benefits, much in line with the ongoing trend of blurring the boundaries between skincare and makeup.
On the other hand, if you’re simply after a setting powder, the Prisme Libre Pressed Powder could be for you. It is buildable and provides the wearer with up to 12 hours of correction and 24 hours of matte effect, and comes available in four different four-colour harmonies designed to suit a variety of skin tones.
The Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Matte Foundation and Pressed Powder ($87 each) is available at Sephora and Takashimaya D.S.
