The Most Noteworthy April 2017 Beauty Buys To Shop Right Now
#1: The Herb Farm
image

New Zealand-based natural skincare brand The Herb Farm is quite literally a beauty brand that uses all-natural plant-based ingredients grown on its own farm. The brand is finally available in Singapore with the introduction of nine basic skincare ingredients catering to two different skin types. There’s a range for normal or sensitive skin as well as a range for more oily or combination skin. Each one has a cleanser, face cream and a toner mist in the range, and you can also try the brand’s face and eye serums as well as a hydrating clay mask. The price point is quite decent, and the range is exclusively available at selected Watsons stores.

#2: Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask
image

In an expansion of its Calendula range, Kiehl’s has just introduced a lightweight gel mask with calendula flower petals and aloe. It’s one of those masks that works for all skin types and immediately cools and hydrates your skin. We love it as a skin-boosting quick-fix in the mornings. Just slather it on, wait five to ten minutes, then rinse it off and carry on with the rest of your skincare routine.

#3: Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner, $69 for 250ml
image

Dry or dehydrated skin? You’ll love this new toner from Fresh. As part of its amazing deeply hydrating rose range, this toner is formulated without alcohol and works to remove impurities, hydrate, soften and smooth your skin while refining pores. It contains actual rose petals, rose water, a rose flower oil, hyaluronic acid and rose fruit extract.

#4: L’Oreal Rouge Magique lipsticks, $19.90
image

One of our favourite drugstore lipstick brands has released a 20-shade collection of matte lipsticks, and they’re incredibly smooth, creamy, and non-drying on the lips. The pigmentation is intense, and there is an impressive mix of shades in the collection. Some of our favourite my-lips-but-better nude lipsticks from the range include a nude neutral colour called Cashmere Delicat and a warm chocolatey brown named Divine Mocha. The lippies are infused with Jojoba oil and canina oil as well as honey for better hydration and comfort.

#5: Murad MattEffect Blotting Perfector, $68
image

The blotting cushion we raved a few weeks ago is finally available in stores. If you haven’t seen our review on it, here’s the gist: It cools the skin, absorbs oil but not water in your skin, and keeps the shine away for up to eight hours. The mattifying effect is instantaneous, and you only need a tiny amount of product to get the job done. And lastly, it comes in a handy little cushion compact you can easily throw in your makeup bag so you don’t even have to deal with the hassle of throwing away bits of blotting paper.

#6: Clarins makeup
image

A selection of Clarins Makeup is finally available in Singapore and hit Clarins counters this month. If you’re unfamiliar with the range, we’ve got a couple of recommendations for you makeup junkies. Love thicker and longer lashes? The Muscara Supra Volume, $42, is a volumising mascara that not only makes your lashes look thicker, but also contains lash care ingredients that are meant to promote lash growth with continued use. The brand’s Joli Rouge Lipsticks, $40, are also a hot favourite with 12 highly pigmented, long-wearing and moisturising shades to choose from.

#7: The Body Shop Drops of Youth Youth Fresh Emulsion Anti-Pollution SPF 20 PA+++, $49.90
image

While we love being city-dwellers, there’s no doubt urban living isn’t the kindest to our skin. Pollution is one of the more prominent aggressors that causes premature skin ageing, which has resulted in an influx of anti-pollution skincare over the last few years (and it’s especially crucial during our hazy months). The Body Shop is also stepping up its anti-pollution efforts with a new lightweight daily emulsion that you can use in your skincare routine as you would a skincare lotion, after cleansing and before sunscreen. It has broad spectrum UVA and UVB filters as well as thyme and buddleia extracts to protect and hydrate your skin.

#8: Laneige Clear C Peeling Mask, $30 for 70ml, and Serum, $40 for 80ml
image

If you love the feeling of smooth soft skin, then you’ll want some AHA (alpha hydroxy acid)-based skincare in your routine. Acid exfoliators are a great way to get rid of dead skin cells and uneven skin texture without having to worry about a face scrub being too rough for you. Laneige has just launched its Clear C peeling range that has both a mask and a serum. It’s super gentle on the skin and you can choose between a mask that contains strawberry seeds for a more thorough exfoliation or a leave-on serum that you wash off after a while.

#9: Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette, $50
image

While this palette isn’t strictly holographic (the shimmer isn’t a rainbow of sparkle), it’s still got four absolutely stunning duochrome or colour-shifting shades. They look rather uninspiring at first glance, but the colour is beautiful when you actually apply it. You can use them as highlighters on the high points of your face because they are on the more sheer side, but as eyeshadow we highly recommend applying it on top of any darker matte eyeshadow for a pop of mesmerising colour.

The palette is available on Sephora.sg and will be in Sephora stores from April 13, 2017.

#10: Nars Narsissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette, $90
image

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a neutral eyeshadow palette to fall in love with, and this latest one from Nars has a great mix of wearable warm and neutral-toned shades. It has everything you’d need for a complete eye look from crease shades to inner corner highlights, a dark brown and black for depth, and even a mix of five shimmer, sparkle and metallic shades to take your look from day to night.

#11: Origins Flower Fusion Sheet Masks, $5 per sheet
image

Origins has jumped on the sheet mask bandwagon with a range of flower-based masks for different skin concerns. The masks are meant to nourish and soften skin with the protective benefits of the flower waxes and essential oils. For irritable or sensitive skin, try the Lavender soothing mask. Jasmine will help soften your skin, Orange boosts radiance, and Violet is great for nourishment. They’re not too pricey either which is perfect for trying them all out.

#12: Mac Cosmetics Next to Nothing
image

If barely-there makeup is your new favourite thing, or you’re looking to feel more confident in your own skin, then give this new foundation range a shot. There’s a powder version as well as a liquid one, and they give you really sheer coverage with an added bit of radiance. It’s probably not for you if you like medium or high coverage, but we love the sheerness for when you just want to even things out and are in a rush to get out the door. The Next to Nothing Face Colour retails for $58 while the Pressed Powder is $46.

#13: For Beloved Girl Cloud Silk Masks, $16 for a box of 3
image

Younger sister brand of For Beloved One launched in Sephora stores this month with a range of mineral-specific sheet masks. There are minerals like zinc, copper and iron to replenish essential nutrients our skin needs, and each sheet is meant to contain almost two bottles worth of the brand’s Spring Water Spray. They’re cut smaller than the For Beloved One masks, but that makes them a pretty good for for smaller Asian facial features. Check out our review of the hydrating mask here.

#14: Dior J’adore In Joy, $134 for 50ml and $194 for 100ml
image

The latest addition to Dior’s J’adore fragrance range is a fresher and more youthful scent than its predecessors. The composition of the fragrance is quite unique. Aside from the fruity-floral aspects of the scent brought out by the Ylang Ylang and peach notes, there’s also an underlying saltiness that stems from its Fleur de Sel note. If you like more sensual fragrances but still enjoy a degree of freshness in your perfumes, give this a shot.

#15: Make Up For Ever launches The Brow Show
image

The pro makeup brand launched new additions to its brow range this month, with a new brow pencil, liner and gel. Your pick of the three depends on the type of brow you love. The Brow Pencil, $30, gives you something a lot more defined and precise, while the Brow Liner, $36, is more of a liquid eyeliner for your brows and will fill in sparse areas well. The Brow Gel, $32, is a fiber-enriched formula that sets your brows, tints them and gives them more volume while still keeping them looking natural. Each of the brow additions is available in five shades.

Available from April 13, 2017 at Sephora stores and the Make Up For Ever Pro Loft.
