Want Beachy Curls Or Sleek Locks? Ace Them With These Nifty Hairstyling Tools

Get your hair looking sleek and straight, or textured and wavy effortlessly, with the help of the ghd’s Platinum and Curve stylers. By Jolaine Chua.

by JOLAINE CHUA  /   April 15, 2016

Styling hair for a night out is a time-consuming task – which is why we tend to skip it totally. UK-based brand Good Hair Day – more commonly known as ghd – aims to change that by suggesting foolproof ways to use their styling irons. Two of their latest products to try, available at Sephora stores here: the Platinum Styler ($395) – it makes creating sleek, textured hair effortless and reportedly reduces hair breakage by 50 per cent – and the Curve Creative Curl Wand ($330) – to help create voluminous curls.

Here, check out the step-by-step guides to achieving four easy ‘dos, whether you’re gunning for sleek, shiny locks or a glamorous, date night-worthy ‘do. The best part: They won’t take you hours to create.

Want Beachy Curls Or Sleek Locks? Ace Them With These Nifty Hairstyling Tools
#1: Sleek, straight locks

Step 1: Section hair evenly with a tail-comb and prep hair with a heat-protecting spray.

Step 2-3: Glide the ghd Platinum Styler through hair strands slowly. To make sure your hair is smooth, use a tail-comb to keep the tension. Any steam released is excess moisture, which you don’t need to be worried about.

Step 4: Repeat this technique throughout all the hair sections. Then, complete the look by combing your hair thoroughly. For an extra shine, spritz on a moisturising hairspray or a glossy hair serum.

#2: Textured curls

Step 1: Section your hair evenly with a tail-comb and prep hair with a heat protecting spray.

Step 2: Rotate the ghd Platinum Styler away from your face, and slowly glide your hair through.

Step 3: Now rotate the styler towards your face and glide it through your hair strands slowly. A change in direction helps to create texture for this wavy look.

Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and 3. Keep alternating the direction of your styler.

Step 5: Brush through your hair to complete the look. For extra hold, use a light texturising hair spray.

#3: Voluminous curls

Step 1: Section the hair above the ear and prep hair with a curling spray.

Step 2-3: Using ghd’s Curve Soft Curl Tong, flat-wrap hair around the barrel. Hold the tong horizontally to create volume.

Step 4: Repeat the technique throughout all hair sections. Comb through your hair to complete the look.

#4: Beachy waves
image

Step 1: Divide hair into three-inch wide sections and prep each section with a curling spray.

Step 2: Further divide each section into three smaller sub-sections. Pick up one sub-section and twist-wrap hair away from your face around the barrel of the ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand. This helps to create defined curls.

Step 3: Pick up another sub-section and twist-wrap your hair around the barrel of the ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand, but towards your face this time (instead of away).

Step 4: Alternate the technique of twisting one sub-section away from the face and the other sub-section towards the face throughout – this creates a beachy texture for your hairstyle. Repeat until hair is fully curled.

Step 5: Complete the look by loosening curls with fingertips for a tousled wave look.
