Why Brands Are Merging Beauty With Wellness (And The Ones That Nail It)

They do more than help you look good.

by Joyce Cheo  /   March 11, 2019

Defined by Oxford Dictionary as “The state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal”, it is only apt that many urbanites have got their minds on their wellness, as well as taken it into their own hands. Best part? They are willing to pay for it.

After all, the statistics show, as the Global Wellness Institute reported a 12.8 per cent growth of the wellness industry from 2015 to 2017. For most of us, firsthand experience tells us that self care has never been more prioritised: more of our peers are going for regular fitness/workout classes, going on wellness retreats, spending on spa treatments and even exploring alternative healing methods like crystal healing etc.

So as more women (and men) are moving beyond merely wanting to look good but also feed good, beauty products also have had to take on an additional role. Instead of choosing products that are efficacious and easy to use like we used to, we are now more demanding than ever as we expect to derive more than skin health from these topical products. And beauty companies have responded, by providing their customers with products that are specially scented to have an effect on their emotional health. Here, the products to get your hands on to pamper yourself from inside-out:

Why Brands Are Merging Beauty With Wellness (And The Ones That Nail It)
Aromatherapy Associate Intensive Skin Treatment Oil, $128 for 15ml

Formulated to nourish dry and uncomfortable skin, this uses a blend of rosehip seed oil and vitamin E to accelerate cellular regeneration. Immediately after one application, skin is soothed, hydrated and infused with a dose of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients. And that’s not all, as it also delicately scented with lavender and rose to deeply relax your mind.

Mmerci Encore Invigorating Facial Mist, $33 for 60ml

The perfect face mist to carry with you or leave it at your desk for a quick dose of moisture anywhere, anytime, this soothing blend of botanicals instantly cools, refreshes and calms even redness-prone skin. We also love its chamomile and rose essential oil blend as it instantly transports us into a happy place, even though we are stucking churning out reports at our desks.

KORA Organics Body Exfoliator, $59 for 175ml

You can count on Miranda Kerr’s clean beauty line for efficacious formulas with the most decadent scents. And this gel-based body exfoliator is no exception: Bamboo stem extract gently buffs away dead skin cells while aloe vera hydrates and soothes skin. Lemongrass essential oil is also added for its toning and purifying benefits, as well as for its scent’s energising properties.

UMA Pure Calm Wellness Oil, $120 for 30ml

As its name suggests, this is the oil you reach for on those stressed out days where your mind is going at the speed of light and you have difficulty falling asleep. With a jojoba oil base, it also contains chamomile, vetiver, lavender, jasmine, sandalwood, geranium and clary sage essential oils to help you wind down at the end of a long and busy day. Each essential oil is selected to serve a purpose, including to promote clarity of mind, calm the senses, provide a grounding effect, as well as to enhance a state of relaxation.

Herbivore Botanicals Detox Blue Clay + Eucalyptus Dead Sea Soaking Salts, $28 for 227g
image

Made with Cambrian Blue Clay and Pacific sea salts, taking a soak in them means bathing your skin in minerals that help to balance and purify the skin. On top of that, eucalyptus is also specially selected for its antiseptic properties and woody aroma that clears and invigorates your mind.

Esker Beauty Restorative Oil, about $92 for 250ml

Thanks to its combination of squalane, coconut, avocado, primrose and jojoba oils, this nutrient-rich body oil is readily absorbed into the skin to soften, hydrate and fortify it against dehydration and free radicals. It is also exquisitely scented with frankincense, bergamot, rosemary and ylang ylang to relax your senses and uplift your mood.

Clarins Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate, $45 for 300ml

Anyone who’s been to a Clarins spa will know the transformative powers that its Relax Bath & Shower Concentrate has. Upon contact with water, it forms a dense and rich foam which gently cleanses without stripping the skin. At the same time, its aromatic formula of basil, camomile and bitter orange soothes a frantic mind and eases muscles tension.
