Every month, beauty journalists are inundated with a ton of awesome lipsticks, mascaras, foundations, blushers, etc (the reality is as great as it sounds!) What this means is we change the items in our makeup cabinet almost as often as we change our clothes. And while we try a lot, we don’t always add them to our regime. These are the products I’m currently using, and loving.
I usually don’t use base makeup, but when I need to perfect my complexion I prefer cushion compacts as they’re not only easy to use but give a more natural finish. Sulwhasoo is one of my go-to brands for comfortable bases.
This provides longlasting, full coverage so you won’t need to touch up throughout the day. It lasts for more than 12 hours without oxidising so your skin stays fresh looking and doesn’t become powdery or cake over time.
Another plus, it’s infused with a cocktail of ingredients like apricot kernel oil, arbutin, white lily extract and adenosine, this treats a multitude of skin concerns such as dullness, wrinkles, dryness and loss of elasticity.
This is easily one of the best concealers I’ve ever tried. It’s provides ultra high coverage (one swipe of the product is enough to cover dark circles and fine lines) that still looks natural on skin. Great for hiding everything from dullness, redness, pimples, scars to wrinkles, this oil-free cream weightlessly blends into skin to blur, smooth and conceal imperfections with a soft-focus effect.
I always use a nude cream eyeshadow as a base. it not only helps the rest of my eye makeup go on more smoothly, but also brightens up the entire area. I love how longlasting this is, as well as how natural the shade looks on my skin. It’s great for Asian skin tones.
Burberry does great natural makeup, period. Its products have comfortable, luxurious textures that glide on and feel barely there. Colours and chic, earthy and extremely wearable. This foolproof pen is blendable, easy to use, and gives great colour payoff. I also love how the rosy-beige shade gives depth to peepers without being too loud.
I use this soft pencil liner at the inner corners of my eye to brighten and open out my peepers. It’s a simple trick that’s great to use.
This multi-purpose illuminator helps to brighten signs of fatigue and is a must-have for anyone who keeps long hours. Plus, the star print on this limited edition version is just too cute.
Like most makeup junkies, I can’t live without my eyeliner and mascara. I prefer liquid as they tend to smudge less in our humid weather (pencils often transfer on my oily lids, giving me panda eyes by mid-day). This gives a slick, easy to control line. And with all Kat Von D products, it really doesn’t budge.
I love mascaras from Japanese brands as they seem to work well on my extremely straight lashes. This helps to separate and lengthen hairs, so you don’t have to worry about clumping, and adds volume as well. It also has a sweat and water resistant formula, a must-have in Singapore’s heat.
I love cream blushers (are you noticing a theme with my makeup preferences) because they’re easier to control, tend to be more longlasting and appear more natural on skin. This gel-cream is a particular favourite of mine. It glides on like a dream, transforms into the softest of powders upon application and leaves a natural, rosy flush. This shade in particular looks great on fairer skin tones.
I always apply a balm twice a day. To me, it’s as essential as a moisturiser, just for your lips. In the day, I prefer to use a tinted balm, especially on weekends when I just want a tinge of colour so I look more alive. This both exfoliates and hydrates, so skin is soft and smooth, while leaving my puckers with a pretty, pinkish hue.
I love lipsticks and always keep about two to three with me at all times. This is extremely hydrating and nourishing – a must-try if you have dry puckers – and its soft pinkish shade looks pretty on every complexion.
Koreans are great at coral lipsticks. This reformulated lippie gives a weightless, comfortable finish that doesn’t dehydrate, while its soft peachy-coral shade helps to brighten the complexion.
Considered both a lacquer and a lipstick, this hybrid gives the shine, smooth texture and colour intensity of a liquid in an easy to apply stick format. Infused with nourishing oils, beeswax and a quasi-crystalline base, its hydrating formula melts into a fluid upon contact with lips and gives a radiant finish that lasts for up to six hours. This bold pink shade is the perfect mix of fun and fierce, I’m obsessed with it.
