Detox your scalp with clarifying shampoos for a healthy head of hair

Much like the skin on your face, the skin on your scalp deserves the same amount of TLC. While regular shampoo is sufficient to get rid of oil and sweat produced daily, it doesn’t slough away impurities and product build-up. This is why it’s important that you incorporate a clarifying shampoo into your shower routine to ensure a deeper and more thorough cleanse. Of course, we don’t recommend that you use these shampoos in your daily shower routine, but especially when you’re living in a humid climate like Singapore, you’d want to give your scalp that much-needed deep cleanse at least once a week. For some of our favourite must-haves that work wonders in de-gunking your hair, keep on scrolling.

Most clarifying shampoos are made without sulfates, which are what’s responsible for creating that rich, soapy lather. However, in Ouai’s Detox Shampoo, you’ll find that you can easily lather the shampoo. What’s more, the shampoo also removes product buildup and impurities while apple cider vinegar helps exfoliate and remove flakes. Great for all hair types and textures, even those with coloured and keratin-treated hair, you can slowly incorporate it into your routine by using it once a week to get rid of all the gunk in your hair and follow up with a rich conditioner to smoothen and tame your ends.

Formulated for coloured, permed, dry, normal and oily hair types, this clarifying shampoo removes the buildup on your scalp caused by the environment and hair products, while it also restores your hair’s natural volume, softness, shine and vibrancy. Use this once a week, and you’ll start to notice that your locks will be a lot healthier and that the products that you use after cleansing your scalp produce more effective results.

Malin + Goetz’s’ Peppermint Shampoo will leave your hair smelling as fresh as ever. As its name suggests, the shampoo is formulated with natural peppermint extract and hydrating amino acids to gently but effectively clarify the hair and scalp. Use it sparingly in your weekly shower routine and you’ll notice that it doesn’t dry or strip your hair or scalp from its natural oils.

This amazing clarifying shampoo does more than just deeply cleanse – it also transforms the appearance of highlighted and natural hair using chamomile and cornflower extracts. With frequent use, natural hair is gradually lightened by the sun, meaning you can skip the regular salon visits and harsh products. For recently coloured hair, this shampoo helps to eliminate residue and excess pigments, so you can stop having to bleach your towel so often.

If you’re a frequent swimmer, this shampoo is for you. Formulated to remove chlorine and minerals found in pools and the ocean, this shampoo helps to deep cleanse and wash away impurities while strengthening your locks. If you have bleached blonde hair, this also helps prevent your hair from turning green due to the reaction with chlorine.
