Besides changing up your makeup routine – these ultra light moisturisers are great for withstanding humid weather – the streetstyle and runway photos here will help you beat the heat in stylish topknots, braided ‘dos and hardly ordinary ponytails.
This multi-level ponytail takes me back to primary school, when this hairstyle was the only way I didn’t come home looking like a disheveled mess at the end of the day. It still looks sleek on adults, and is a great option if you have a lot of shorter hairs around your face that you want to keep tied up.
While the goal with hot weather is to generally keep your hair off your neck, I find side ponytails or braids to be just cool enough to not irritate. Plus, braiding your hair from the side is so much easier than trying to braid it down the back of your neck.
The glam factor in this look swings more nighttime than day, but there’s something completely classy about the deliberately tousled hair around the crown of her head. Whether you’re going for a bun or ponytail, this is one way to make your face look longer. Perfect if you’ve got a more rounded face.
A braid across the top of your head might seem old-fashioned – it is called a milkmaid braid after all – but it’s made a comeback on the runway in the last few seasons and is definitely worth trying out. All you need to do is braid your hair in two sections on either side of your face before wrapping them up and over top. Braids look really cool with various hair colours or highlights, and this look is even evening glam-appropriate.
This twisted bun is my daily go-to whenever I leave the house or have to step out into the heat. I just gather my hair up high and twist it around until the ponytail curls around itself. All you need is a scrunchie or hair tie (preferably one that doesn’t leave kinks). This is also a great way to get wavy hair on the go!
This ‘do is all about the illusion of short hair. A faux bob, if you will. It’s a great idea if you’re trying to figure out if a lob or bob haircut will look good on you. It requires pinning your hair up and underneath, and it also gives your hair more volume in the process. Need a tutorial? Jen of From Head To Toe has a great one to follow. I find this style looks more modern if you curl your hair slightly beforehand.
A little more whimsical than a regular bun, this one sits on your head almost like a crown. Just pull your hair up into a high ponytail and twist the ponytail around until it starts to roll itself into a bun. Secure it in place like a loose crown with some bobbi pins.
You might need some help with this one if braiding isn’t your forte, but it’s easier than it looks. All this requires is two individual French braids going down the crown of your head on either side, before wrapping them around and pinning them in place. For a rough idea, you can check out this tutorial that shows you how this even works for shorter hair.
