The New Way To Hydrate Goes Beyond Slapping On A Really Good Moisturiser

We’re talking customising a cream that at once moisturises, and also treats key skin concerns.

by SOFIA KIM  /   March 20, 2019

Hydrating your skin is one of — if not the — most important step in any skincare regime. A hydrated complexion is plump (read: fine lines and wrinkles are smoothened out), supple, soft and youthful-looking. But here’s the deal: everyone’s skin type differs, which is why it is important to pick out the right type of moisturiser that is suitable for your skin. Those who have oilier complexions would prefer a gel-type cream that feels weightless and is fast-absorbing, while those with drier skin types would definitely opt for heavier creams.

Choosing the right type of moisturiser off the shelf is simple, but why settle when a more targeted and personalised cream — that not only suits your skin type, but also treats your main skin concerns ranging irritation, enlarged pores and dullness — is available? Enter: the new Clinique ID. A first for the brand, this custom-blend DIY hydration system allows one to create the aforementioned ideal treatment for their skin.

How it works: first, pick out one of three of the brand’s iconic Dramatically Different Moisturisers, then choose one of five Active Cartridge Concentrates (a potent blend of pure, concentrated active ingredients that target specific concerns). The result? A multi-tasking concoction that both hydrates, and treats skin at the same time. To top it off, Clinique’s innovative, specially-designed packaging delivers precise proportions in every pump, so the right amount of active ingredients will be delivered to the skin.

Above, we take you through the different options to personalise your own treatment.

Thanks to glycerin and hyaluronic acid, this reportedly delivers continuous hydration for eight hours. A blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract, and cucumber fruit extract then help rebuild skin’s moisture barrier so it is stronger and more resilient to external aggressors.

Laminaria saccharina extract helps to balance out oily complexions while a combination of humectants attracts and provides immediate — and continuous — hydration. And since it has an oil-free formula and weightless texture, this absorbs quickly into the skin and does not leave any residue.

Treatment: Active Cartridge Concentrate — Irritation

A green cartridge that contains pure, concentrated levels of lactobaccilus ferment and other active ingredients to calm, comfort and soothe delicate skin. The probiotic ferment also helps to boost skin’s natural defenses against external stressors to help keep skin in balance all while reducing the effects of skin irritation and discomfort.

This comes in a blue cartridge that contains pure, concentrated levels of AHAs (a gentle chemical exfoliant) and other active ingredients to reduce the look of pores and retexturize skin for a clearer and brighter complexion.

Packaged in a white cartridge, this is formulated with pure, concentrated levels of Japanese angelica root extract and other active ingredients to help boost radiance and even out skin tone.

Its key ingredient taurine re-energises skin and revives fatigue and tired-looking skin caused by external aggressors.
