13 Cool Inspos For Your Next Haircut

If your hair has grown out so much that it’s a waste to go back to your old style, here’s your chance to rock a swish new look

by Goh Yee Huay  /   August 23, 2020

Haven’t cut your hair since the circuit breaker and looking to refresh your lengths? Here are a few hairstyle inspirations to help you make your decision, whether you’re looking for something cool, edgy or girly.

13 Cool Inspos For Your Next Haircut
French bob

Channel relaxed chic with a French bob, which is cut blunt near the jawline, with bangs at the eyebrows and choppy, heavy ends. However, Kan of Chez Vous salon says you need to be dressed and made up to pull it off, or it could look like you just got out of bed – in a bad way.

Blunt bob

“The blunt bob offers a nice balance between sophistication and edginess. Great for working professionals who have a rebellious streak but are constrained by their corporate environment,” says Wai Kan, associate director of Chez Vous salon.

Micro bangs

Up your cool factor with micro bangs. They’re perfect for “shortening” the look of a high forehead and creating more balanced facial proportions.

Modern mullet
image

“The modern mullet is the anti-fashion haircut for ballsy women who are tired of typical ‘pretty girl’ hairstyles. But beware, it takes attitude and guts to pull off this ‘I don’t care what people think’ look,” says Readen Chia, associate director of Chez Vous salon

Pixie cut

“The pixie cut is a classic that never goes out of trend. And it can be customised to suit every face shape,” says Chia.

Side-swept curls

“Side-swept curls are sexy, feminine and go well with both a formal outfit and rock-chic streetwear. To create defined, bouncy curls, try a cold perm,” says Natasha Ching, senior stylist of Black Hair Salon.

Clavicut with bangs

The clavicut – a blunt cut that grazes the collarbone – is the It style of the year, says Black Hair Salon senior stylist Dee Toh. This one has bangs, for a cute little twist.

Clavicut

Another clavicut but with a centre parting – it’s elegant and youthful yet low-maintenance. Ching says it also complements most hair types and face shapes.

Romantic curls

Loosely curled shoulder-length hair is soft, romantic and very versatile.

Extremely layered 'do

To style this layered, rocker ’do, Ching of Black Hair Salon says to apply a thickening spray on damp hair, section by section, from roots to ends, then blow-dry to get good volume.

Bob with loose curls

“To achieve this look, ask your hairstylist to give you a concave bob. Pair it with loose curls for a casual-chic look. You can either create the curls with a digital perm or use a heated curler brush for DIY styling,” says Toh of Black Hair Salon.

Long layers

“Long layers – with their slimming, contouring and concealing effects – are more flattering than long, blunt haircuts. To avoid frizz in our humid weather, apply a curling cream on wet hair before blow drying on medium heat; use a downward motion, twisting hair inwards continuously,” says Kan of Chez Vous salon.

Long, loose curls

Hippie waves and loose perms – as opposed to pageant-like sculpted curls – are the trending looks of 2020. To keep these looks manageable, Chia of Chez Vous salon recommends using a lightweight curl-styling gel on towel-dried hair, then leave it to air-dry.
