In Singapore last Thursday for a meet and greet, Dior Pro Team makeup artist Yoshitomo Takahashi shares the best makeup products to use before partying all night, what type of foundation is suited for Singapore’s humid climate and how to get luminous, dewy skin right.
“I have worked with Peter several times backstage at Dior’s fashion shows. He is most concerned about translating the designer’s concept and themes. The message he wants to bring across through makeup is important, and we need great sensitivity to observe and learn from Peter.”

“Since you will probably be dancing a lot at a party, a long-lasting foundation is important. For base makeup, I recommend the new Diorskin Forever Fluid Foundation ($82). For eye makeup: The most contrasting colour in the dark is white, and using black eyeliner and mascara – like Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara ($53) – helps to bring out the whites of our eyes and create a more visual, 3D effect. For lips, red is the most effective colour. If the colour is too soft (like pink or beige), it will fade. Choose a lipstick that has more shine, such as the Dior Addict lipstick in #976, which helps to reflect more light (off the lips) and makes you look more glamorous.”
“Use black eyeliner and don’t create a cat-eye flick; that’s quite old-fashioned. Instead, draw a thin line (about one to two mm) on the eyelid, moving inwards from the outer corners of the eye, on the sections directly above the whites of the eye (avoid doing so above the pupil). This will create the biggest contrast so eyes will appear larger when you open it. Next, apply mascara first on all your lashes, then only over the centre part to emphasise it more.”
“The Dior Forever Compact Foundation ($96) is suitable for Singapore’s hot, humid weather. It has skincare properties even though it’s a compact powder. It reduces the appearance of pores and also covers shine. Skin also tends to get dry around the eyes and cheeks, and this provides more moisturising coverage to these particular areas. The powder particles are also extra fine, so it doesn’t leave a powdery finish and still retains high coverage.”
“The amount of loose powder you use after applying foundation is important. Sometimes, if you put too much loose powder on, your dewy foundation looks more matte. It’s important to use a brush if you want a dewy finish and gently pat it over the centre portion of the face where it shines more easily, instead of over the entire face. This helps to remove excess shine but retains the dewy effect.”
