Our Edit Of The Best Skin Shade-Inclusive Foundations Out There

Is the beauty industry finally embracing diversity? Many brands have expanded their range of foundation shades in recent times, and here are the ones we swear by.

by SOFIA KIM  /   February 14, 2019

Ever since Rihanna launched her own beauty brand last September drilling down on diversity and inclusivity — her popular Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation comes in 40 shades — a wave of brands have started releasing a wider range of foundation tones (and no, not just 40 shades of beige) to cater to an array of different skin colours. In light of this, we’ve compiled a few standout brands and foundations that not only have an assorted shade range, but also formulas all beauty junkies will love.

Our Edit Of The Best Skin Shade-Inclusive Foundations Out There
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation, $50

Of course, we’d have to kick off with Rihanna’s staggering range of foundations. In 40 inclusive shades, this gives skin an instantly smooth, pore and shine-free finish that easily builds from medium to full coverage without looking cakey or feeling heavy. The oil-free formula is made with a climate-adaptive technology that is said to be resistant to sweat and humidity.

Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, $76
image

Said to be the brand’s first ever 16-hour foundation that comes in 33 different shades, this is one of my favourite foundations to date. A little goes a long way with this product and it features a lightweight, breathable and fade-resistant formula. It is also formulated with a patented Skin Optimizing Complex, which is a blend of raspberry, apple and watermelon extracts to support the skin’s elastic fibers and boost skin’s radiance appearance.

Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation, $65
image

With a total of 40 shades, this weightless foundation blends easily onto the skin (thanks to its thin texture, you can even use your hands to blend it onto your skin) and gives a light to medium coverage. It is also said to be able to resist extreme external conditions like humid environments and workout sessions without budging.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Foundation, $74, Sephora

The patented Infinity Milling process produces super-fine pigments that are infused in this oil-free foundation, resulting in a natural-looking finish that is said to last for 24 hours. All 29 shades contain snow mushroom extract, which is known for its impressive ability to hold onto water, as well as blue daisy extract to visibly improve the complexion-dulling effects of pollution.

Mac Studio Fix Fluid Foundation, $56

The brand has just released 18 new shades to its existing line, making it a total of a whopping 57 shades of foundation available in Singapore. Each shade is carefully created to not only match skin colour, but also skin’s undertone. Its high-quality formula reportedly comes with an oil-controlling 24-hour wear to give a matte finish with buildable coverage.

Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick, $76, Sephora
image

With a total of 32 shades, this highly pigmented foundation stick is said to give coverage that’s comparable to a concealer. Its creamy formula blends easily onto the skin and still feels weightless and comfortable. The longwearing, waterproof formula also corrects discolouration and hides imperfections for a flawless complexion in a seamless finish.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation, $72
image

Developed specifically to blur out imperfections captured by the lens, this lightweight foundation comes in 27 different shades and blends easily onto skin. Its coated pigments provide medium to buildable coverage with a lightweight, second-skin texture that feels uber comfortable.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+, $62
image

While this might not boast a huge shade range, it has just added seven new shades to its series to cater to different skin tones. This full coverage CC cream is saturated with anti-ageing and hydrating benefits to improve the appearance of skin texture, even out skin tone and minimises the look of wrinkles and pores.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, $74

The glowing, natural radiant finish foundation provides sheer, buildable
coverage and evens skin tone. The brand has just added 11 new shades to the range, rounding up with a total of 34 shades to choose from.
