10 Fragrances Inspired By Travels And Dream Destinations

If fragrances are mean to evoke memories and emotions, then the inspirations behind these perfumes might incite wanderlust.

by SOFIA KIM  /   June 23, 2020

The month of June is traditionally the time of the year when we take our mid-year escape to some far-away destination – but we all know how that situation has panned out. So while we can’t physically bring ourselves to our dream vacations, these fragrances, which are inspired by travels around the world, might just do the trick.

10 Fragrances Inspired By Travels And Dream Destinations
London: Burberry Her London Dream, $214
image

This bright and youthful scent brings to life the beauty of a relaxed afternoon in the gardens of London with its top notes of lemon and fresh ginger for a vibrant, citrus scent. Also included in the formula is a concoction of mandarin, pink peppercorn, plum blossom and peony notes. These work together to deliver a fresh yet fruity fragrance, while notes of sandalwood and musk give it depth.

Los Angeles: Louis Vuitton Cologne Perfume California Dream, $380
image

As its name suggests, this portrays the beauty of a Californian sunset with notes of mandarin, ambrette and benzoin. Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud aimed to create a scent that combined both warm and cool notes for a balanced fragrance that is fresh, energetic and calm. To create this, he made use of citrus mandarin, earthy ambrette and warm, slightly spicy benzoin. Tying it all up is the beautiful packaging designed by the city’s famed artist Alex Israel.

Grasse: Gabrielle Chanel Essence, $184
image

A richer and creamier iteration of the Gabrielle Chanel EDP, the Gabrielle Chanel Essence is a spritely, floral and dreamy scent that reminds us of the historical French Riviera town of Grasse. This opulent fragrance opens with the warmth and creaminess of Grasse tuberose. The feminine scent is then intensified with jasmine, radiant Comoros ylang-ylang, refreshing Tunisian orange blossom and tangy red berries, before descending into a base of vanilla and white musk.

Morocco: Chloe Nomad Absolu De Parfum, $175
image

The intense woody chypre is meant to evoke the energy and spirits of the golden horizons of Morocco. That experience is further amplified with sandalwood to add a creamy, woody richness. While these notes may be quite earthy and slightly masculine, the scent is perfectly balanced with lighter and fruitier notes of mirabelle plum and velvety davana.

Paris: Tiffany & Co. Tiffany Eau De Parfum, $211
image

The romantic floral fragrance is formulated with its key ingredient, iris butter which is harvested in France for a sensual long-lasting richness. The scent opens with vibrant top notes of vert de mandarine with base notes of patchouli wrapped in a blend of soothing musks for a sophisticated, fresh and feminine fragrance.

Greece: Gucci Bloom Ambrosia, $235
image

Created by master perfumer Alberto Morillas and inspired by the tales of Greek Gods, this fragrance is an intensified version of the original Bloom accord. It is now enhanced with velvety orris and damascena roses. Instead of the conventional construction of top, middle and base notes, this fragrance opens fully at once at first spritz with notes of noble flowers like jasmine bud extract, tuberose, rangoon creeper, damascena rose and velvety orris.

Sri Lanka: Jo Malone London Jasmine Sambac & Marigold Cologne Intense, $275
image

A whiff of this bright and vibrant fragrance takes you to the first rays of summer sun breaking through the hills of Sri Lanka thanks to the inclusion of majestic marigolds. It is mixed with notes of fragrant jasmine and aromatic ambers to reveal a scent that is warm, inviting and uplifting – just like the break of dawn.

Marrakech: Gucci The Alchemist's Garden The Voice Of The Snake Eau de Parfum, $520
image

The scent centres around the precious ingredient oud which is warm, slightly spicy and sensual – and reminiscent of the perfumed aromatics one will encounter in the exotic markets of Marrakech. To further amplify the properties of oud, patchouli and saffron are also added to the combination. What else we loved: the bottle design that harks back to the jars you would see in an old-school apothecary.

London: Penhaligon’s Elisabethan Rose Eau de Parfum, $300
image

A playful interpretation of the quintessentially British rose perfume, this fragrance exposes a wonderful bouquet of geranium, camomile, violet and rose, before notes of musk, amber and sandalwood further intensify its floral scent. The combination of floral and earthy notes will transport you to a calm day in a quaint English garden.

Costa Rica: Memo Tamarindo Eau de Parfum, $330
image

How do you celebrate the lush and sun-drenched rainforests of Costa Rica? This perfume is a vibrant tropical concoction of bergamot, juicy pineapples, jasmine, patchouli, vanilla and cardamom. To further intensify its fruity and floral scent, notes of jasmine, mandarin orange, coconut and peach are infused into the formula.
