How To Recreate Korean Actress Gianna Jun's Best Beauty Looks
Lesson #1: Make Your Lips Pop
image

Known for her enviably dewy complexion, Gianna Jun (or Jun Ji Hyun), is often photographed flaunting her beautiful skin and accenting her look with a bold lip. Take your cue from the face of K-beauty brand, Hera, and opt for a bright lip colour to make your lips pop while keeping the rest of your makeup pared down. Opt for a pink-based colour for a fun and casual vibe or try an orange-based one to avoid looking washed out.

Lesson #2: Dare To Bare
image

If you already have naturally good skin, why cover it up with heavy makeup? Instead, switch to a base product with buildable coverage so you can control and customise the look of your makeup depending on your skin. This enables you to conceal flaws while still enabling your natural skin texture to shine through.

Lesson #2: Dare To Bare

Hera’s UV Mist Cushion, $68 for 2 x 15g, is made of super fine pigment particles which helps makeup look and feel light on the skin. It also features Satin Glow Powder for enhanced radiance, and is available in two formulas. ‘Cover’ is suitable for all skin types while ‘Ultra Moisture’ is further enriched with hyaluronic acid to provide skin with added hydration.

Lesson #3: Bright Colours Can Look Elegant Too

Always wanted to experiment with brighter hues for the office? Keep things work-appropriate by selected a coral or subtle orange hue instead of something over-the-top like fuchsia.

Lesson #3: Bright Colours Can Look Elegant Too

While the Hera Lip Gelcrush in 280 Get the Orange, $45, boasts saturated pigments in a long-lasting glossy finish, all you have to do to tone it down is blot it with tissue and you’re all set for the day. And if you’re headed out after work for drinks or dinner, just touch it up again for a high-shine effect.

Lesson #4: Always Wear SPF
image

If you ask your derm, chances are he or she will say that the best investment you can do for your skin is be conscientious with sun care. This is because UV rays are largely responsible for common signs of premature ageing like fine lines and wrinkles as well as hyperpigmentation. To maintain skin’s youthfulness, be sure to protect your skin with a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 PA+++, even if you’re in the office for most part of the day. And make sure to touch up your sunscreen with a pressed powder with UV protection or leaving a sunscreen spray at your desk so you can easily top it up before you head out for lunch or appointments. As sun damage is accumulative, it is vital to be consistent as you’ll only notice the full extent of the damage years later. Make sure you stick to your routine even on cloudy or rainy days as UV rays penetrate clouds and even glass windows.

Lesson #5: Do The Prep Work For A Just-Bitten Lip
image

Whether you’re a fan of the ombre lip look or a subtle stained effect, Gianna Jun has worked all of them over the years. The key to pulling off these looks? Smooth and plump lips, of course. To prep your lips, use a lip scrub to gently polish and lift dead skin cells. Most lip scrubs are also formulated with nourishing botanical oils to soften rough lips. If you don’t have a lip scrub on hand, try exfoliating with a baby toothbrush as it helps to buff away dead skin cells to reveal soft and smooth skin that’s perfect for creating any lip look you desire. Follow by applying your preferred lip colour and blot with a tissue to achieve that just-bitten look. Or if you prefer an ombre effect, apply lip colour to the centre of your lips and blend towards the edges for a gradation effect.

Lesson #6: Glam Things Up With Red Lips
image

Nothing ups the glam factor more than a slick of scarlet red lips. However, it’s not easy to find a lipstick that is comfortable to wear, lasts all day long and is packed with pigments. To answer even the most demanding needs of modern women, the Hera Rouge Holic Exceptional, $46, combines all of the above in a handy bullet. Our favourite red? No. 334 Fierce, a neutral red that’s neither warm nor cool so it flatters all skin tones. Thanks to its buttery texture, it glides over your lips effortlessly, coating them with bold and vibrant pigments for the perfect pout, without emphasising fine lines.
