Why You Need To Add Hydrogel Masks To Your Beauty Arsenal

by SOFIA KIM  /   April 10, 2018

Not all sheet masks are made using the same material. In fact, there are a few different kinds such as cotton and bio-cellulose. Many of us are more familiar with the former but the latter, too, gets our vote for being super effective in infusing our skin with moisture (plus, it adheres really well to our facial contours). Apart from the mentioned two, we are also loving hydrogel masks.

As its name suggests, hydrogel is a gel that is able to hold large amounts of liquids. It is commonly used to treat burns as it speeds up the healing process while cooling the affected area. Additionally, it acts as a barrier to protect the wound from inflammation and any growth of bacteria. When used on our faces as sheet masks, it is able to hold more moisture than regular cotton sheet masks thus, allowing our skin to absorb more nutrients and also boost hydration levels. It also clings and adheres like a second skin while creating a layer between the skin and the environment, ensuring that our skin is constantly protected.

Here, the ones you need to add to your beauty stash.

Why You Need To Add Hydrogel Masks To Your Beauty Arsenal
#1: Skin Inc Get Glowin Platinum Mask, $17

This is formulated with vitamin B3+ and a potent blend of brightening natural floral extracts to improve overall skin tone, reduce redness and sallowness, as well as diminish the appearance of dark spots. It is also made with platinum to boost the antioxidant effects of the mask, which then helps to combat environmental damage for radiant, luminous skin.

#2: Laneige Water Bank Double Gel Soothing Mask, $34 for a box of five

This sheet mask comes with two separate pieces and is formulated with hydro ion mineral water, which is infused with six ionised moisturising minerals that help to regulate skin moisture. It penetrates deep into the skin to lower its temperature, soothe and keep it soft and supple for hours.

#3: 111Skin Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask, $170 for a box of five

Infused with 24K rose gold particles and damask rose extracts, this luxurious hydrogel sheet mask helps to brighten your overall complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and moisturises the skin.

#4: Lancome Advanced Genifique Hydrogel Melting Mask, $125 for a box of seven

The heat-sensitive hydrogel mesh melts into a liquid at skin temperature, releasing potent active ingredients when in contact. The result? Skin feels smoother, visibly plumper and more radiant. P/S: This is said to have the same amount of probiotic extract as a bottle of the brand’s Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate.

#5: Boscia Wakame Firming Hydrogel Mask, $12, Sephora

Saturated with a host of vitamin and antioxidant-rich ingredients such as anti-ageing wakame (Japanese sea kelp) and seaweed, this mask helps support natural regeneration of skin cells and tissues. It also prevents early signs of ageing like loss of skin elasticity while leaving skin feeling smooth and soft.
