Disclaimer: this is not a story about vegan beauty but rather a piece about how scents featuring extracts of herbal and vegetal plant varieties are creeping into the world of perfumery.

While green scents with notes like grass and tea leaves are a summer perennial for their freshness and evocation of the great outdoors, what’s new about this crop of green perfumes is their herbal and rustic quality – which boils down to our desire for wellness, love of plants and au naturale goodness these days.

Just consider the breakout scent of tomato which appeared in the home fragrance collections by both Jo Malone and Loewe. It joins the medley of olfactory notes like chamomile, basil, oregano and marijuana, mint and thyme which are making their presence felt in the perfume industry today.

Christian Louboutin‘s newest Loubiworld fragrance collection comprises seven new releases that come in dramatic scarlet bottles. Besides the usual floral assortments, Loubicrown blends notes of patchouli with tonka and cedar for a woody oriental concoction.

A new olfactive family (or otherwise known as modern fragrance category) called Mineral Aromatic has been established through this genderless fragrance which is defined by the note of Roman chamomile. The key ingredient is structured with Indian coral jasmine petals; warm, luminous sandalwood; airy, subtle cedarwood; and an irresistible vanilla note.

Notes of osmanthus and tea absolue are mixed with mandarin for a fresh, slightly citrus scent inspired by the scenery of the Jeju volcanic island located on the coast of South Korea. Base notes of white musk lend a sensual and clean appeal to this friendly fragrance.
