#1: Acne
Dr Lum shares that he is seeing more patients experiencing acne – and they include those who had relatively good skin prior to circuit breaker. He explains that it is likely due to the lack of facials and laser treatments, increased stress which can cause hormonal shifts, and increased humidity in the immediate surroundings.

He adds that if the current skincare products are not helping to treat the condition, it is wise to consult a doctor. With teleconsultations readily available, doctors are able to provide their input and assurance, as well as to prescribe the right medication and skincare products. For example, antibiotics may be prescribed for more severe outbreaks. Dr Tan also highlights that antibiotic gels or oral medications are important to treat and calm severe acne.
#2: Skin Sensitivity
Dr Lum reckons that this is largely due to the wearing of masks whenever we head out. “The masks may be made of materials that may cause skin to be sensitised,” he adds. It is better to prevent it from occurring by ensuring the skincare products we use are packed with protective ingredients such as antioxidants like vitamin C, E and A, which are capable of protecting skin against free radicals in the environment.

“Free radicals can harm the skin by reducing its collagen and elastic tissue. Moisturisers are very important right now. This is especially so for patients with sensitive skin to build a protective barrier against the mask, which might be made of materials that can be sensitive for some,” Dr Lum explains.
#3: Rosacea
Epion Clinic’s Dr Tan explains that since many patients are unable to get their regular facials and laser treatments, they may tend to develop rosacea – a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that results in redness, pimples, swelling, and small and superficial dilated blood vessels.
He also adds that if the condition gets worse, it is crucial to get in touch with a doctor. For most issues, sending photos or a phone consult is all that’s required to assess what the problem is and adjust your regimen.
#4: Dry Skin
Dr Tan believes that this condition is more prevalent for those who are constantly blasting the air-conditioners at home. “When this happens, it is important to include hyaluronic acid serums and moisturisers for as it is a superior ingredient when it comes to treating dry and dehydrated skin types,” he shares.

#5: Skin Irritation, for both your hands and face
Dr Tan explains that with constant handwashing, the use of alcohol sanitisers and mask wearing, our complexions may be more prone to irritation and redness. He also adds that if the situation worsens, it is best to seek help from a doctor and ensure that you are using all your products as prescribed.
