The Runway-Inspired Dos For Your Out-Of-Control Quarantine Hair

While we cannot wait to book our next haircut and treatment at the salon once the circuit-breaker is lifted on June 1, why not use the time on hand for a little homework? Here, we shine the spotlight on eight styles from the recent Fall/Winter 2020 runways to get inspired by and tell you who are the experts to seek out.

The Runway-Inspired Dos For Your Out-Of-Control Quarantine Hair
The Anti-Volume Part
image

The look: A non-layered cut which lets you part your hair (it really doesn’t matter if it’s a centre or side part). Keep things sleek by ensuring that there are no flyaways or baby hair.

As seen at: Jil Sander, Loewe, JW Anderson, Tom Ford, and Stella McCartney.

What to expect: To achieve the look, it is important to do a pampering treatment to tame your locks. Opt for deep conditioning, smoothing and reparative treatment to restore damaged and frizzy hair. After the treatment is done, styling your hair will be a whole lot easier with fewer flyaways and frizz in the way.

Best for: Any type of face shape.

Try: Chez Vous’ Hair Botox + Fillers Programme, $400-$540

The details: #05-05 Ngee Ann City; tel: 6732-9388

The Effortless French Do
image

The look: Textured and voluminous locks with bangs that are slightly permed or curled. Think how French It girl/musician/model Lou Doillon will do her hair.

As seen at: Coach, Chloe, and Celine.

What to expect: You don’t necessarily have to commit to a perm since you can easily achieve the look by just curling your hair. What you need to do is to have straight-cut bangs and ensure your hair grows out to chest level.

Best for: A more rectangular and angular face shape.

Try: Hairloom Hair Salon

The details: #01-50 Shaw Towers; tel: 6295-2088

The Retro Waves
image

The look: A more sculptural and edgier take on vintage-inspired styles like the ’30s finger wave and ’40s Victory rolls.

As seen at: MSGM and Miu Miu.

What to expect: Lots of gel and hairspray to ensure the curls are fixed in place (and lasts throughout the day). It’s best to keep tresses as long as possible to create more voluminous, well-structured curls.

Best for: More rectangular and longer face shapes.

Try: Check out the folk at Evolve Salon who are known for their innovative and fashion-forward styling and cuts.

The details: #03-102 Great World City; tel: 6336-1358

Lush Natural Waves
image

The look: An easy and conservative approach to a new look that can be easily styled (cue Chanel’s  dreamy half-ups which are tied with bows).

As seen at: Chanel, Dior, Coach, and Marc Jacobs.

What to expect: The key here is to achieve healthy hair since dry, frizzy and damaged locks will not look good when styled or cut in such a natural manner. Our ProTip: Book yourself a hair treatment to revive dull, damaged tresses for healthier-looking hair.

Best for: An oval-shaped face will look good with chest-length hair while a squarish face will suit a longer length.

Try: Mi The Salon’s Kerastase Fusio-Thermie Hair Treatment, $138

The details: #03-19 Ion Orchard; tel: 6884-7757

The Bob
image

The look: Instead of the usual super straight bob, this takes a more carefree approach that says “no styling was needed”.

As seen at: Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Coach.

What to expect: Hair is slightly wavy and bouncy. We encourage a light perm to achieve the unstructured look – though curl your hair at home on your own works too.

Best for: Those with sharper, smaller and diamond-shaped faces.

Try: Yann Beyrie Salon

The details: #03-01D Wisma Atria; tel: 6235-2476

The Shoulder-Length Chop
image

The look: If you’re not up for any fancy hairstyles and cuts, a quick trim that grazes the shoulder is a refreshing change.

As seen at: Bottega Veneta and Marc Jacobs.

What to expect: Since the cut is really easy, it is best to compliment this with a pampering treatment to achieve lush and healthy locks. Choose one that targets both your scalp and hair for a more holistic approach to haircare.

Best for: Heart-shaped faces.

Try: Chez Vous HideAway

The Baby Bangs
image

The look: Straight, blunt and cropped bangs.

As seen at: Gucci and Coach.

What to expect: It is important that your hairstylist cuts it in a way that not only fits your face shape, but also complimenting the rest of the haircut. You can choose from a more wispy take on the baby bangs to a thicker and fuller version.

Best for: Oval-shaped faces.

Try: Harts Salon

The details: #02-05 9 Tan Quee Lan Street; tel: 6254-5762

The Slick-Back Hair
image

The look: Fresh-out-of-the-shower non-layered hair that is styled slick back.

As seen at: Balmain, Proenza Schouler, and Sacai.

What to expect: To achieve a neat look, ensure that your tresses are smooth and frizz-free. As such, opt for a treatment to tame and nourish dry, damaged hair before all else.

Best for: Square-shaped faces.

Try: Lee Kaja’s Cinderella Hair Treatment, from $300

The details: #03-13 Mandarin Gallery; tel: 8133-0818
