Salina Chai’s Skincare Secret To Her Picture-Perfect Wedding

Among skincare fiends, the Chanel Hydra Beauty range has a rep for providing a fuss-free go-to routine that’ll leave complexion hydrated, radiant and smooth. To put it to the test, FEMALE and Chanel Beauty roped in content creator Salina Chai to give her first-person account using the line for her recent nuptials.

Every doctor and dermatologist will agree that hydration is essential to a healthy, glowing complexion. After all, when skin is dry and dehydrated, it leads to a host of other issues like premature ageing, roughness, dullness and sensitivity.

It is precisely because of its importance that Chanel Beauty has dedicated one of its most precious ingredients to its Hydra Beauty range: the Camellia Alba Plena flower. Grown in Gaujacq, France, it has a high concentration of active ingredients that intensely moisturises and energises skin.

The Camellia Alba Plena flower used in Chanel Hydra Beauty boasts a high concentration of active ingredients that intensely moisturises and energises skin.

Something else that sets the Hydra Beauty line apart is its use of microfluidics technology. Chanel is the first brand to use microfluidics to create skincare with active ingredients that do not need membranes and are instead stabilised in micro-droplets.

Why is this so important? For one, the technology gives the ingredients a direct affinity with skin. Without a membrane, active ingredients can get absorbed into skin as soon as one applies the product. This improves its efficacy and efficiency.

Secondly, micro-droplets give you a 100 per cent active formula (read: there are no stabilisers or superfluous ingredients that mainly help to deliver actives, but don’t actually do anything for your skin; they might even irritate sensitive complexions). In short: All the ingredients that your skin receives are nourishing for the complexion

The Micro Serum, Micro Liquid Essence, Micro Gel Yeux and Micro Creme in the Chanel Hydra Beauty range is made using microfluidics technology.

Currently, this microfluidic technology is used in four products in the Chanel Hydra Beauty range: the Micro Serum, Micro Liquid Essence, Micro Gel Yeux and Micro Creme. Used together, they will make your skin feel softer, smoother, plumper and more balanced instantly.

One person who knows first-hand the perks of Chanel Hydra Beauty is digital content creator Salina Chai. The 27-year-old is a longtime fan of the French luxury house’s skincare and cosmetics, swearing by their ability to keep one looking refreshed 24/7.

Case in point? In July, her original plans to host her solemnisation in a beautiful venue was derailed at the last minute by the pandemic and the new regulations that had kicked in with Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), forcing her to hold it at home instead. If she was stressed out by the situation, it was impossible to tell with her glowing complexion.

Here, she shares with us her beauty routine leading up to the nuptials.

How did you prep your skin prior to the ceremony?

“I made sure to stay away from fast food, nuts as well as fried and oily food to prevent any breakouts! I also masked regularly. I alternated between the Chanel Le Lift Flash Eye Revitalizer, Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Repair Mask and Chanel Le Masque Anti-Pollution Vitamin Clay Mask.”

Can you walk us through your beauty routine on the day of your solemnisation?

“I started off by doubling cleansing with the Chanel L’eau Micellaire and La Mousse. I followed that up with my favourite Hydra Beauty Micro Serum and Micro Liquid Essence, and the Micro Gel Yeux to plump up my peepers.

Because I have dry skin, I make sure to never skip using a moisturiser. My go-to is the Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream as it is lightweight enough for our humid climate but is still able to keep my complexion hydrated throughout a long day.

Last but not least, I finished my routine with a sunscreen. I never leave home without first applying my Chanel UV Essential.”

How did you keep your complexion looking fresh and glowing the entire day?

“I sporadically spritzed the Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Mist over my face throughout the day, to give my skin an immediate dose of hydration and energy. Because of how gentle and fine the mist is, it was absorbed easily even with my makeup on.”

What is one skincare product you can’t live without?

“Definitely the Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum. As I have facial eczema, I can only use products that are gentle. Also, due to the nature of my work, I have to wear makeup for long hours and if my skin wasn’t sufficiently hydrated, my makeup will look cakey and dull.

I’ve used many different products throughout the years and this is one serum that is truly soothing yet extremely moisturising. My complexion no longer feels dry or irritated since I’ve added it to my regime.”

What is one beauty tip that all women should know before their big day?

“Less is more! Stick to your usual skincare routine and try not to use any new products as it might not be suitable for your skin and could cause an adverse reaction, leading to a breakout or worse.”
