All girls can relate to this scenario: you leave the house in the morning with your makeup looking perfect and fresh, but by midday, humidity has left your carefully applied foundation looking slightly oily, patchy and – gasp! – greyish (damn you, oxidation!) Unfortunately, it’s something that happens even to the best of us.
So what’s a girl got to do? Well, a month ago we would have said “blot and reapply your foundation every afternoon”. But we’ve recently gotten our hands on a new collection that will answer all your makeup wearing-off worries.
The upcoming Shiseido Makeup Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing collection uses a patented ActiveForce technology that allows its bases to resist humidity, respond to heat, rebound from facial movement (so you don’t get creases or lines), absorb oil, diffuse light and protect against UV rays. What this means is you don’t ever have to worry about touching up ever again.
And if that’s not enough, it has a formula that creates a protective veil to trap micro-particles and help prevent skin damage, and is even able to intuitively send moisture to areas of the face that is drier to prevent patchiness. While the new Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing range is made up of seven products and two brushes, only the three core bases in the lineup contain the ActiveForce technology: Foundation, Cushion Compact, and Concealer.
The Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation ($74) offers full coverage that is almost imperceptible. It has a longlasting, lightweight formula that maintains a fresh, natural finish for a full 24 hours. It’s smudge-proof, crease-resistant, humidity-resistant, and transfer-resistant, and is made with a Smart Correcting Powder to enhance skin’s texture and tone.
Our personal favourite is the Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Cushion Compact ($75). Extremely lightweight – you’ll barely feel it on your skin – it leaves a radiant finish that’s so natural you’ll look as if you’re going out bare faced. It provides up to 16 hours of coverage, and is infused with antioxidant-rich wild thyme extract, light-reflecting pearl powder, and moisturising Super Bio-hyaluronic acid.
Another must-have is the Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer ($46). Its soft, creamy texture gives medium to full coverage for 24 hours to camouflage dark circles, blemishes and other imperfections. The intuitive applicator is able to hold the perfect amount of product and hugs the contours of the face for an ultra-smooth and controlled application. Tip: Fairer complexions should use a peachy shade to colour-correct and counteract dark circles, while deeper skin tones can reach for a reddish shade.

The latter is shaped like a camellia flower – Shiseido’s brand logo – and has ultra-soft yet dense fibers to buff pigment effortlessly into skin.
