There are a ton of different ingredients used in beauty products, so it’s not always easy to know what to use. So we spoke to Dr XY Lum of IDS Clinic and Dr Ram of The Wellness Clinic to find out what are the ingredients they are loving now.
According to the doctors, ingredients like idebenone, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and niacinamide are the ones to always have. “Idebenone is an antioxidant that protects cells from environmental damage, improves the appearance of fine lines, reduces dryness and smooths skin texture,” shares Dr Ram. He adds, “studies show that idebenone is more powerful in preventing cell damage than vitamin C”. When skin cells are damaged, it may cause pigmentation and other signs of ageing, which is a very common skin concern amongst many women. So now instead of using vitamin C, many are now looking into idebenone, a stronger and more effective skincare ingredient, to treat such problems.
Hydration is an important factor to good skin, and one of the best ingredients to deliver moisture to skin is hyaluronic acid. “Hyaluronic acid has powerful anti-ageing properties and is also one of the premier hydrating ingredients for all skin types,” says Dr Ram. It also regulates cell renewal and maintains skin’s moisture and elasticity while holding up to 1000 times its own weight in water, giving amazing benefits to dehydrated skin.
While its a known fact that pollution can damage our health, many are only now becoming increasingly aware of the effects it does to our skin such as dark spots and premature ageing. To fight pollution, look out for ingredients like “antioxidant-rich vitamin E, niacinamide and plant extracts, (which) help protect the skin from the environmental pollution,” shares Dr Lum.
Now that you know what ingredients to look out for, here are the products to try.
