The Eyebrow Trends And Products That You Shouldn't Sleep On
Feathery Brows
image

Spotted on the models of Alberto Zambelli: feathered out, natural-looking brows that seem like they have barely been filled in. Or they’re better known as the anti-thesis of the super carved out and contoured Insta-brow that were all the rage. To pull this look off, just embrace your natural brow shape and thickness of brow hairs in all of its untouched glory. We love this look because it makes you look just the right amount of made-up, without looking like a try-hard.

Hourglass Arch Brow Micro-Sculpting Pencil, $47
image

If you’re looking to fill in your brows slightly, create soft flicks with this brow pencil from Hourglass which has a precise 1.4mm diameter tip that’s uniquely shaped flat tip for the thinnest hair-like strokes. It’s also said to be long-wearing and smudge-proof.

Soap Brows
image

Soap brows are an elevated evolution of feathery brows. To put it simply, they’re feathery brows but with much more amped up drama. The same unkempt but chic boy brow sentiment still stands. When it comes to this look, you’d want your brow hairs to look as coarse as possible. Fret not if your natural brows don’t already look like this (the majority of ours don’t, anyway) because a trusty brow gel will do the trick.

Oribe Côte d'Azur Bar Soap, US$32.95 (S$45.30), Net-a-Porter
image

Granted, this isn’t really an eyebrow product but it was how the trend of soap brows came to exist. It’s been said that running a spoolie through a soap bar with glycerin and then your brow hairs, locks in brows hairs in a way that puts fancy brow gels to shame. And to that, we say: don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow+ Brow-Volumizing Fiber Gel, $44
image

Here’s a more conventional alternative. This tinted eyebrow gel contains tiny microfibres that stick firmly to the skin and hairs, creating natural-looking fullness and definition. The tip of this applicator consists partially of a tiny, tapered brush that is used for application and blending, plus a special precision tip that’s meant for shaping. Apply this in a continuous upward motion to lend the crispy, crunchy and full finish to the brow hairs.

My Brows But Better
image

This brow trend essentially shares the same train of thought as the “My Lips But Better” movement. The purpose isn’t to be clear of makeup completely but to artfully wear makeup that ever so subtly enhances what you already have. It’s okay if makeup is detectable on your face, as long as you still look natural and not overly done up.

Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Powder Duo, $40
image

What nude lipsticks are to the “My Lips But Better” trend is what brow powders are to this “My Brows But Better” look. This brow powder contains densely-packed, finely-milled pigments in two corresponding light and dark hues that allow you to add deepen or lighten your brows exactly where you need them. You are free to customise the intensity of the shades to your liking. We’d usually go light at the tip and dark at the tails of the brows for an ombre effect that’s more natural than a full solid-coloured brow.

Straight Brows
image

This particular brow type was popularised by the Koreans who prefer a good ol’ straight brow as compared to one with a highly-angled arch, as the straight style translates to a much softer look than the high arches.

Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil, $68
image

This pencil from Bobbi Brown is said to have a special blend of moisturising waxes and emollients that give this pencil its unique, slightly creamy texture. It also claims to have smudge-, transfer- and waterproof wear for 16 hours as the formula produces a film that delivers strong adherence to the skin. Plus, its angled blade shape allows for easy drawing of sharp, straight lines that you’ll need to perfect this look well. Pro tip: keep stopping to check if your brows are getting too blocky. If they are, quickly brush them through with the spoolie brush on the other end.

Coloured Brows
image

As seen on the runways of Henrik Vibskov – striking fuchsia-coloured brows on bare skin. You probably already switch up your hair colour every month or two, so there’s no reason to leave the brows out of the mix. Also, these are a great timesaver on days where you can’t be bothered with putting together an elaborate eye look.

Kat Von D Beauty 24-Hour Super Brow Long-Wear Pomade in Scarlet, $29
image

If you aren’t ready to permanently commit to just one colour yet, grab brow pomades or brow mascaras in a myriad of colours, fill your brows in whatever hue you feel like and call it a day. This weightless, waterproof pick from Kat Von D promises 24-hour high-impact colour in a spectrum of 16 shades, so you’re bound to find one that you fancy.
