Chanel’s Upcoming Makeup Collection Is All About Creating Translucency

by MOH SHUYING  /   March 9, 2018

It’s no secret that natural makeup is big this season, which is why we’re looking forward to Chanel’s upcoming collection, which is all about achieving a light sun-kissed glow.

When creating the aptly named Eclat et Transparence de Chanel range, which loosely translates to the shine and transparency of Chanel, the brand’s Global Creative Designer for Makeup and Colour Lucia Pica had a vision of creating an airy vision of beauty that blends just-warmed skin, bronzed by the sun’s first few golden rays, with soft, sheer, transparent colour. Milky pink, gentle aqua, gold and bronze are combined to create the perfect palette of dream-like summer hues.

Inspired by the light, sheer yet sensuality of shadows, the makeup collection aims to suggest rather than show, by playing with colours and light layers. “It’s really about how to transform that glamorous feeling of summer into something that is still striking,” explains Lucia, “but feels more transparent; as if it really becomes a part of the skin.”

You can check out the entire collection, which will hit our shores on 26th April, here.

Chanel’s Upcoming Makeup Collection Is All About Creating Translucency
#1: Palette Essentielle in #Ete Eclat Solaire, $94

This 3-in-1 palette helps to create a fresh, glowy complexion all day long with that essential touch of refinement and polish – something Lucia Pica describes as her ‘signature for skin.’ “I wanted a product that could achieve that fresh skin look I do on shoots,” she says. It includes two highlighters in beige-caramel and gold, as well as a blush in raspberry red.

“You have a gold to go on the eyes, which is meant to create a touch of light. You have a bronze to go all over the face. It’s an all-over shimmer that radiates light, and it’s so subtle that it really looks like part of the skin. And then you have a beautiful red colour that you can use on cheeks and in the middle of the lips to create a sort of natural stain,” explains Lucia.

#2: Les 4 Ombres in Eclat Enigmatique, $96

These limited edition eyeshadows have silky, powdery textures that are soft and easy enough to wear effortlessly. The palette contains four modern takes on summer shades: a satiny ivory, a concrete grey, a brick red and a bronze brown.

“The colours in Eclat Enigmatique are made of a more transparent texture so even if you have a red, bronze, grey and pearlescent gold, when you apply them they have a very transparent texture so you have this hint of glamour,” says Lucia Pica.

#3: (L to R) Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur in #17 A La Rosee, #18 Rose Shocking, #19 Au Naturel and #20 Ultra Rose, $50 each

These easy to use lip crayons give you a precise finish usually found when you use a lipstick and lip liner. Created especially for this summer collection, the four new shades include a pastel milky pink (A La Rosee), a rosy caramel nude (Au Naturel), a fruity coral raspberry (Rose Shocking) and a vibrant tangerine red (Ultra Rose).

#4: (L to R) Stylo Yeux Waterproof in #867 Secret, #887 Charme and #897 Revelation, $38

These eyeliners are now available in three new, limited edition warm shades. Secret is a deep green that makes a beautiful Summer alternative to black; Charme is a brown-aubergine perfect for creating more natural looks, while Revelation is an intense rosy taupe with silver reflection.

#5: (L to R) Le Vernis in #608 Legerete, #610 Halo and #612 Chicness, $40

Chanel seasonal nail polishes have always been a big hit and this collection is no different. Sophisticated and slightly subtle, the collection is wearable yet chic. Halo is a milky pink that pushes the idea of ‘nude pink’ nails into a new, more exciting territory, the green khaki Legerete explores the idea of ‘urban’ khaki, while the mauvy deep burgundy Chicness is such to be an instant classic and the perfect new neutral.

#6: L'eau Tan, price unavailable

A first for the brand, this refreshing self-tanning body mist leaves a fresh fragrance created by Olivier Polge for the occasion. It was inspired by L’Huile Tan, the first tanning product created by Gabrielle Chanel in 1932, which gave women a sun-kissed, “outdoor” glow.

This light mist brings freshness, hydration and a light touch of delicate color that will last throughout the summer. The light and slightly tinted texture enhances and prolongs skin’s natural tan so skin looks soft, radiant and warmed by a bronze and luminous glow.

“It gives you a very light tan, it’s almost like what you’d get at the beginning of the summer. The colour you get on your skin is quite golden but very transparent, and it’s got a beautiful cologne perfume in it so it feels fresh,” says Lucia Pica.
