Beauty Editor Moh Shuying Shares Her Travel Skincare Essentials

by MOH SHUYING  /   May 25, 2017

Let’s face it, even the biggest beauty junkie doesn’t enjoy lugging around a ton of products when travelling. The key to keeping your complexion healthy and looking fresh despite the stresses from flying and changes in weather is to use skincare that works smarter and harder for you. Also try to choose products that are gentle and soothing, as skin can get irritated or inflammed when you travel. Here, I share my fuss-free, fast but effective travel skincare routine.

Beauty Editor Moh Shuying Shares Her Travel Skincare Essentials
#1: Cle de Peau Beaute Eye and Lip Makeup Remover Towelettes, $40

If you have sensitive eyes, you’re going to love these towelettes which gently yet quickly remove makeup with little fuss. It cleanses off eyeshadow with just one swipe and can remove even the most stubborn of waterproof mascara. Another plus: unlike water cleanses, the towelettes don’t require cotton pads so you can even save space in your beauty bag.

#2: Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, $50

Being on the plane or exploring a foreign country can expose you to more dust and dirt than usual, which is why I prefer to use a slightly stronger cleanser. This is soap-free gel is extremely gentle and is great for sensitive skin. Rich in natural plant extracts and contains microbeads to remove makeup, impurities and even eliminates surface dead skin cells. It also has detoxifying benefits and is able to neutralise pollution.

#3: Estee Lauder Micro Essence Aquaceutical Mist, $104
image

This micro-mist helps skin adapt to and resist the dehydrating effects of modern lifestyles (pollution, shifting environments from indoors to outdoors, etc). It contains a Micro-Nutrient Bio-Ferment and Climate Conditioning Complex to soothe, balance, moisturise and nourish skin. It’s mist format also allows you to apply it directly onto your skin so you don’t have to worry about bringing cotton pads with you.

#4: La Mer The Concentrate, $720
image

This is chock full of skin healing and strengthening properties, and works on everything from sensitivity, skin texture and even breakouts. It’s my go-to serum whenever my skin is stressed, and to cut down my beauty routine on trips, it’s also the only one I bring with me, thanks to its multipurpose properties.

#5: La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Lotion, $430
image

I love how this so hydrating (great for cold and dry climates) but still has a light, creamy texture that feels like I have nothing on at all, a must-have when I’m visiting hot, humid countries. It literally works for all kinds of weather. And it also contains Miracle Broth, the brand’s signature skin healing ingredient.

#6: Shiseido Global Suncare Perfect UV Protector SPF50+/PA++++, $59
image

A sunscreen is probably the most important product you need in a morning routine, and I always choose something with a protection level of SPF50 and a PA quadruple plus. This has a lightweight texture that doesn’t leave any sticky or white residue and comes in a nice pinkish -beige shade that goes well on most complexions.

#7: Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub, $48
image

I always apply a balm twice a day, scrub once a week and apply a subtle lip colour when I go out. This does all three in just one product (yay to saving space!) This both exfoliates and hydrates, so skin is soft and smooth, while leaving my puckers with a pretty, pinkish hue.

#8: Cle de Peau Beaute Illuminating Concentrate mask, $190 for a box of six
image

Instead of using a full night-time skincare routine, I just use this. The three-part treatment has a lotion, serum and mask, and replaces your regular skincare regime and helps to refresh, soften and brighten the complexion so you look more youthful and fresher the morning after. It also gently exfoliates and nourishes skin to leave your complexion softer and smoother. It’s been my secret weapon to looking fresh when travelling for years.
